Regarding pup choice..different strokes for different folks. For that clean sparkle that we love for surf and rockabilly, you need a lower output single coil..it can be a stock pup if you're happy with that go no further or..you can try the Fender custom shop 50's or 60's which are wonderful for surf...if you want to go nutz..here's one for you...replace your 2 Jag pups with a set of stacked Duncans..go further if you want and add a hot Duncan under the pickguard..add mini toggle 5 way switch and a pair of push pull pots = Jag/Strat/Tele/Les Paul... Hah!

I know..I know...a similar beast is my Jazzmaster built for me by Bill Nash..2 Jason Lollar P 90's with a Lollar Blackface single coil added in the center spot..vintage style vibrato in place of the floating one..no wheelie pots..2 3 way switches instead, Graphtech saddles..oh yeah,,a reverse headstock..of yeah..shag tiki design with jeweled eyed witch doctors/skulls and a bamboo vibrato arm...don't try this at home! I will try and post pic if there are any others out there with a yen for the bizarre! I tried but pic needs to be smaller and I'm computer challanged..

My Jag, which you've heard a lot of, George, has Duncan SJAG-1s, on recommendation of a friend. He was right--these pups have the vintage sound nailed. I'm not expert enough to know the diff between the stock Japanese pups and these, but these are just right!

I think the stock pups are good..just lack that shimmer at the top that sounds so good..like yours!
