I agree with the "darker/deeper tone" comments but I would add that it is a more versatile sound. Mind you, I don't have a 4003 so I am comparing it to my 4001. A buddy began "borrowing" my CII when gigging with his raggae band which led to him borrowing it to record his own music which led to my ...

Yeah, I know a scattering of folks to jam with. I'm pretty much a hack but some of them are very good. Now if I could only finish soundproofing the attic ....

But give a call, I'll hook you up.

I was in the local (El Cerrito) GC twice in the last two weeks. The only Ric in the store was '73 BG 4001 ($1,450 w/out full width inlays or checkered binding, min. wear but not even cleaned up). I have only seen ONE other Ric in that store EVER (a desert glo 330 that a friend of mine bought). They ...

Hi Steven,

Feel free to look me up if you would like to play an old 4001 or a new CII. I'm strange enough to still be listed in the phone book under Gordon Adams in Berkeley. I did receive a recomendation for a good Ric luthier (who understands old 4001 truss rods) from another forum member. I'll ...

To get back to Marc's original question. The only differences are that the CII has gold hardware and the Laredo chrome and that the most figured wood grains become natural or translucent CII. Although, now that Ric offers the translucent colors on Laredos they may receive comparable wood grain.

Congrats! That bass really grew on me as I kept checking in on it. The (dark) fireglo and the maple neck is a great look.

Swerving just a little off topic here. Much as I cringe at some of the mangled Rics on ebay, I side with the attitude of "I'm a player and I intend to keep it". I was at the ballet and noticed that all the upright basses in the orchestra pit had this extension (about 9-10 inches) sticking up at the ...

OK Bob, lucky for you that I am an ordained minister in the Universal Life Church which enables me to ** legally ** marry couples in California, and since this is the wacky S.F. Bay area -- anything goes. So, without further ado,
Do you, Bobampeg, promise to play, enjoy and cherish this fabulous ...

Well the sad demise of my ancient Pentax continues. Sigh. However, it did manage to get half a image of my 4004 CII translucent red. And I did want to get a picture of it up to compare to Scott's very different translucent red. It certainly does appear that Scott has a much livelier flame in his ...

I don't know Marc, once you get your hands on one of those Rickenbacker lap steels, you start to have second thoughts. I bought one as a gift for a friend and I really enjoyed the 4 months between purchase and Birthday. Then again, if you shoved a high gain into the lap steel after lifting its ...

Even thought the seller pulled the auction due to inaccuracies, he has a MG 4001 that he also mistates as having a horseshoe and a toaster when, in fact, it sports two high gains. I think I would take the wide path around this guy.
