--George was "navel gazing"--

If I recall correctly, the Beatles last album was Abbey Road which contained SOMETHING and HERE COMES THE SUN. When the Beatles broke up, Harrison released the superlative ALL THINGS MUST PASS album.

I think I'll contemplate my navel.

I'm amazed that the Beatles even got a record contract with a no-talent like Lennon.

If you consider the rythem part in ALL MY LOVIN' strumming, my hats off to you. I would venture to say that Lennon's guitar work is tremendously underrated, and that he set the standard for rythem guitar playing ...

Mike wrote "A great guitarist! I saw him doing rockabilly in the 70s. Didn't think he was that old."

He was playing 'Billy with Robert Gordon way back. I think he might have played on Gordon's version of Springsteen's "Fire" - I had an album "Robert Gordon with Link Wray" and I'm pretty sure ...

Speaking of Beach Boys covers, "Rock 'n Roll Music" is execrable ear velour to me. And I'm not even sure I know what that means!!! And while we're talking "Louie Louie", the Kinks did a cover on one of their early albums, probably Kink-sized in the good ole USA.

...I'm thinking Dave Mason, but I could be wrong...

If I remember correctly, Dave Mason played rythem guitar on Jimi's recording of Watchtower.

Stuart,

I used to have one like this in the 70s. Isn't this a bolt-on neck with a back plate and 4 screws??? Have you tried tightening the screws???

A couple of observations. As far as John being totally inept, I've heard that he did mount the Bigsby on his Rick. I believe he also sanded down the Casino, disconnected the middle pickup on the first Rick, switched knobs. He sounds like a tinkerer at the very least.

As far as maintainence on ...

Tony,

I've got 180s on two of my guitars, one is a Squier M-77. They're awesome pickups, you wouldn't go wrong with them as long as you're comfortable with doing the routing.

Those are DeArmond 2K pups which are more like beefy P-90s than the old Gretsch/Guild DeAs. Dearmond does make another pickup (DeArmond 2000) that looks almost the same but sounds more like the classic DeAs. The 2000s are used on some current Gretsch and have been used on certain Fenders like the ...
