The Sixties: worst covers?
Robert/Hollies/Dylan:
I think most of the stuff on Hollies sing Dylan is eatable, or better. But still can't understand why they chose such an outrageous arrangement for BITW. I think it is just on the treshold of being embarrassing, or even tasteless. But taste differs, and I love the Hollies!

Searchers amongst my teenage favourite music. Still fond of them, but earnestly a little puzzled they are considered THIS big! But I'm very excited about this forum, and will love to read it regularly, and also contribute!
Another Clough Classic! How about Adam Faith? I love this one for the classic guitar.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Has anybody mentioned the Beach Boys' version of "Louie, Louie" on the "Shut Down Vol II" album?
Execrable ear velour for the damned.

“I say in speeches that a plausible mission of artists is to make people appreciate being alive at least a little bit. I am then asked if I know of any artists who pulled that off. I reply, 'The Beatles did.”

My kid gave the following versions to your quiz, Roy:
a) Gerry Lee Lewis;
b) Tony Sheridan;
c) Beelee Hawliday (yep, she writes her name like that and she refuses to believe Billie's a woman
;
d) "if not Beelee, then it must be Johnny Hawliday!";
e) Carl Perkins (yes we know he's not a British artist).
We both liked it, though... Nice piano sound.

Nothing will get you dead quicker than being deadly serious about yourself.

Spot On Peter and thanks for having a go Sheena.
As regards I Call Your Name Brian, it could be argued that The Beatles version was a cover version. They released their version on the EP (Remember Them) Long Tall Sally in 64 but the track had originally been released in 63 as the B side to Bad To Me by Billy J Kramer and the Dakotas and as with Do You Want To Know A Secret I think Billy's version just edged it.
