That's the exact same serial number as my '75 Burg 4001FL, though i'm sure the letter portion is different (i hope!)... funny.

The first bit sounds very Marshall/Celestion-y, but the later live footage looks like a Vamp or HH transistor amp.. but i thought he always used Marshalls during that time?

I've really been into the Ken Smith Compressors on my 4001FL, which are made to be flat(er) by compressing the outer winding to an oval shape.. no estimable 'board wear, and great, bright r.w. tone.. not too much tension either, which is good. They're a nice balance point between the two types of st...

For me, it's an all-out aversion to spending money on work i can (potentially) do myself! Still, i have to acknowledge when i shouldn't be doing something for fear of making it worse.. that, in and of itself, is the hardest part!

Thank you, Ted. The depth of info that you possess is frightening.. but very helpful! So, is this something that you think is do-able by someone with time and patience?

Fingerboard trueing/radiusing for 4001FL?

Hey All.. does any one know (or know how to find out) what the radius is on a '75 4001FL fingerboard? I think i need to have mine 'trued', as there are some inconsistencies (little peaks and valleys that buzz at unfortunate points).. I'm considering doing the work myself and just need to figure out ...

Hey Ted.. I thought that some of the '70s FL's (like mine) had a Padouk board?

I finally found that cd of gear pics; here's the aforementioned 1959 Ampeg model 835C, with my apologies for the awful pic.. Bob, do we have the same amp? http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m112/endlessbassic/d1825410.jpg As soon as i can find an appropriate thread to do so, i'll post some (marginal...

It sounds like my neighbors bought a box of dynamite again this year. BOOM! Makes me jump every time.. I'm all for a good depth-charge every now and again, but some visual appeal would be nice!

Bob, i'm trying to find photos of mine as well.. i took several of the Ampeg, as well as my Burg 4001FL and can't seem to locate the disc.. I think it's in a 'safe place', so safe that even i can't find it!

Hey Bob.. is it a tin-plate Ampeg logo on your Bassamp? I've got a '59 myself (model 835c), with the 'random flair' tolex. Would love to see a pic of yours!
