They went all the trouble to fake the truss rod cover & then forgot to put a screw in the tip end.

If a vintage bass is still playable after 40+ years, then it's durable. The string tension is the most demanding thing your bass will have to endure over time. I've got a 70s era neck-through Epiphone whose neck snapped in the through the body portion between the two pickups...that's fragile ...

"Actually, I do believe those '70s 4003s DID have bolt-on necks" Ronn, I normally respect your expertise on Rick basses--but only '60s 4003's had bolt-on necks! This one clearly is a 4002 made at the Knockerbackon plant by John Hall's cousin, John John.
