Re: Another 4-2-5

Wow - it's (again) been a while since I visited or posted here - nice job Peter on the new look!

Jeff, I'm glad to hear things are going so well for you out west. Your 4-2-5 conversions are very sweet; I will definitely have you do one for me if my next Ric isn't as pristine as Tony C.'s (yes, I ...

I liked the idea of a 5-string so I could walk down to the D (my church band seemed to play a lot of songs in D at one time), and not resort to alternate tunings or a hipshot.

For that reason, I nearly took the '93 4003 MG I bought from Tony C. a while back to see "Dr. Jeff", but at the last ...

OHSC dimensions/fit for Ric basses

Hey everyone! Haven't had much time to monitor the Forum 'tween work and everything else lately.

Question of the day (with background info) is this:

I recently bought a '93 4003 MG from another Forumite, and I love it. It came without a case, but that was no biggie for me, since I had a "spare ...

Glad to hear it worked out OK for you, Charly. This is one of those tunes I've played a lot, so I like to throw in a few new "tweaks" each time I do it (can't help it ... too much jazz in my youth and old age LOL).

Did you record the service? We didn't play this one this year, so I'd like to hear ...

Charly - dang, I was on vacation the past week, could have helped ya out if I'd logged into the Forum while I was out in WA. This was one of the first 'cool run' songs I learned 'back in the day' during my first year playing bass in youth choir.

Sheet for the run appears in the original '2nd ...

Great thread, and thanks Jon for posting the side-by-side pics.

Looks like I'll be getting a '93 4003 to replace my CS ... for those of you who've played a bunch from different years, where would the '93 fall in terms of neck thickness, roundess, etc. ... ?

WTG Charly! Hoping to have one of Jeff's 4-2-5s to play at church sometime soon, too, now that my CS has taken its second trip in a month - first to Mike P. in NC, the next to a buyer in the UK (still in the approval period).

I believe I have first dibs on a certain Forum member's '93 4003 MG; it ...

Thanks all! Sounds like the '93 4003 I may have a shot at buying most certainly has the "dinky" headstock then.

How "dinkier" is it than the later ones?

4-2-5 conversions

I've been following another recent thread here, and noticed posts that indicate there was a time period in the 1990s where Ric was making 4003 basses with, if I may ...
