Autumn Glo..purchased by me in 1977 at Manny's in NYC.
I replaced (and have long lost) the knobs with Tele style knobs in the haze of the late 70's. I recently removed the rubber in the damper as it had started to liquify. I also removed the capacitor on the treble pot to much delight as I now ...

Thanks... however my problem is a common one and has been discussed at length on this board. The truss rod requires the nuts to be sheared off, rods pulled, cut and rethreaded. Also a new block fashioned from brass or aluminum to fit the cavity better and prevent the thread ends from bending.

70's 4001 Truss Rod Problem
A while back there was a thread on how to fix the truss rod problem where the stop block near the nut fails and the truss rod nuts get bent into the neck.
The thread had instructions, diagrams and pictures of the procedure.
Does anyone have the link handy? I have finally found someone to do ...

Its an Autumn Glo. I have the same bass in lesser condition (I actually have gigged with mine)
the knobs do look close together. One thing I have noticed though, you can take two ric's from the same era and see big differences. The wave at the top of the headstock can go from an elegant swell to ...

Truss Rod Replacement
I have a 4001 dated 8/76, originally bought by me in '76 in Tobacco Sunburst. The truss rods have pushed the nuts into the neck.
I have read several threads here and I think the best thing to do is replace the truss rods with the new style.
Has anyone attempted this?
