I purchased my bass in August of 1976 from Manny's in NYC and specifically asked for Autumn Glo. I got the color from a catalog I coveted and read until I could pry the money from my Dad's hands ( I was 14 at the time).

The '77 looks exactly like my bass. The English one is different (no binding).

The English one on eBay has binding. You must be talking about the one posted above my message. That's Jared's 8-stringer, either 4008 or 4003s8, I forget. They're all beautiful. Me likey.

The transition on the older FG's and AG's seems so much more subtle than what you get now. I don't like today's FG as much. Anyone agree, or want to throw rocks at me? :-)

Image I know it's a ****** picture, but the large downsizing I had to do didn't take away from the color at all. I'm a tad bit color blind, so would this be FG or AG? I always thought it was FG, but have seen pictures of what is called AG on mid to late 70's Rics, and look just like mine. Same thing with some pictures of what people call FG. I don't know.

Some digital cameras don't render red well. The picture below of my 4001 WAL (gloss, not satin) next to a 4001 FG was tweaked to get the color as close to actual as possible.

Note how redder the FG appears due to the tweaking, also that the WAL is realy a "brownburst", not having red in it.
