Re: The Book is alive!

Congrats Paul!
It's been a long time coming. It must be exciting seeing it for real. Years ago you took pictures of my Walnut 76 4001. Did it make the cut? When and where will we be able to purchase the book?

Re: 4001 Truss Rod Covers

I think it was May of '75 or was that for the movement of the neck pickup?

Re: Tone Pot Issue

It Works! I checked the solder joints and all looked good but I heated them up and added a bit more. I love when a fix is that easy. Thanks all.

Tone Pot Issue

The neck tone pot on my '76 4001 doesn't do anything. It appears to be wide open, which is better that totally cut. For awhile it would work intermittently, not scratchy, it would either work or not. Is it possible that it's just a cold solder? If so, which wires should I look at? Or.. is it more ...

Re: I'm Resigning As Moderator

Joey,
Thanks for all the time that you spent moderating. I always felt that you did a great job. Unfortunately, it seems that people find it very easy to criticize and rarely complement. I hope that you will still contribute.

Re: Rick Humbuckers and/or shielding in 4003

The hiss isn't the amp because I tried 2 different ones. Hissing maybe isn't the best description. It sounds almost like it's picking up a fan signal in the house. The 60Hz hum is pretty much eliminated by the Hum Debugger pedal but it doesn't filter out this other noise. I was hoping that shielding ...

Rick Humbuckers and/or shielding in 4003

My 4003 can be quite noisy and I have been debating installing HB1s. How do these sound, pretty close to the hi-gains or completely different beast?

I purchased the EHX Hum Debugger and it works great but there's still a strange hissing in my house and some bar situations. Could be lousy wiring as ...

Re: Something Interesting in the RIC Boutique

During the 4001v63 era, you could purchase a RIHS from the boutique. So, I don't see any reason that it couldn't happen again.

Here's a shot from a gig that we did a few weeks ago. It was about 105 degrees that day.

Re: Need help dating my New Rickenbacker 4001

Great find!
Looks like your truss rods are bent and that's what popped the fretboard. A very common casualty of a neck adjustment done by a person without RIC knowledge. I know that your friend, who is very good at restoration work, is doing this project but make sure that he knows everything about ...
