I used to own a 4008 back in the day and I must say that was one awsome sounding 8..and the only bass I ever regret selling..BTW I never had any tuning issues with that bass(even though it had the 4 string bridge)and it REALLY filled some sonic space..great in a trio(guit, bass drums)setting...that ...

hey Jeff Ulmer,I have #7 on your list...it's a 82'4001 in that color(not the matte finish)although with age it does'nt shine as much as it used to but,it's still real pretty....I don't think I ever heard it called Canadian autumglo..

yeah,I guess I would consider them the same in the tone catagory.I think Cliff had a little more lows but, the production on those early albums did'nt do them justice(no pun intended)...it's just another side of the Ric

I think I read it here but, someone discribed the sound of a Ric as"playing piano with a hammer"(I love that,I wish I thought of it.)does the Lemmy sound qualify as"grrch-pang??if so then would he be at the extreme end of grrch,or pang?..(you don't have to answer that if you don't like,I'm being a ...

I was recently in the studio with my 4003 and the engineer was complaining about the clipping..after further inspection,I noticed my strings were hitting the pole pieces on the bridge p\u which BTW does not have the cover on it and never will(I have a real heavy attack)so I lowered the p\u and all ...

Patrik,welcome...I've have the same problem with my 82 4001(which is now retired)but never had that problem with my 2002 4003..but I know how frustrating it is.I tried EVERYTHING to fix it and it just seemed to remain lower(in volume)than the other 3 strings..I've come to the conclusion that it must ...

how about NO BINDING...I'm not a real big fan of binding on the body...binding on the neck feels real nice but,the bound body edege digs into my forearm...and nothing looks better than a 4001s or the 4004..so I'll take a 4004 5string,a 4003s w\a BLACK bound neck and ebony fretboard w\triangle inlays ...

while I do agree with all the songs listed,I'm kinda suprised no one said Lemmy's Ric tone...it may not be the best example of what a Ric should\could sound like but,you gotta admit its brutal....sing it with me(while you make "devil horn" hand jestures)THE ACE OF SPADES....THE ACE OF SPADES!!!!!!

I too used to own a fretless 4001 and made the huge mistake of putting rounds on it(I was much younger then)..it sounded really cool while it lasted(picture"Jaco Squire" on steroids) but,it did'nt last very long. I wore the clearcoat right down to the wood.which made it almost impossible to sell ...
