Re: Great place to get repair/sales or rics (NJ)

Adding to this really old thread so see if anyone can recommend a luthier/tech to work on a Rickenbacker bass in New Jersey? Since Pick of the Ricks closed, I don't know who to trust. My 4001CS has a low G at the third fret causing buzzes. Whoever had it over the years must have had a heavy left ...

Re: Ampeg V4B cabinet suggestion

I had Fliptops make a vintage-like 4x10 cabinet for my V4B... two, actually. I'm actually looking to sell one. If you're interested email me off list. I don't know how to post pictures here, but here's the writeup:

Fliptops (online store for vintage Ampeg parts/restoration) made this custom 4x10 ...

Re: 4004 Sighting - Paul Weller

I like how these clips illustrate how the 4004-sound can sit in a mix. The HB-1 pickups (and in the case of the Cheyenne, the woods too) give the 4004 a different voice, but it still sounds like a RIC. Is it unmistakably a RIC? I'm not sure yet...

I adore my '08 4004L (FG). I'd prefer a more 60s ...

4004 Sighting - Paul Weller

It can be a challenge to hear examples of 4004 basses on record, as it were, but in Paul Weller's recent live appearances his bass player (Andy Lewis) can be seen rocking a 4004 bass - a Cheyenne, I think, in Montezuma Brown. Currently on his home page (http://www.paulweller.com) there's a video ...

Re: 4001V63

Angelo,

Glad to hear the v63 went to a good home! I bought that bass new from Manny's in Nov 1998 and always cherished it. Loved the sound, and the look of it. Having been used to 4001s and 4003s, I never got used to the way in which the horseshoe structured my playing though, and I often thought ...

Re: Best DI for Recording

Thanks very much guys for offering your suggestions about the best di setup. I actually bought an Avalon U5 and like jps found that it sounded best without the eq engaged. But it was always too clean and sterile sounding to me. I managed to find a SIB Fatdrive and tried running that before the ...

Best DI for Recording

Lately I've been going direct with my 4001v63 - into a computer and also to a mixer - for rehearsing and recording. I'm investigating DIs, and thought I'd ask the list for suggestions. It seems the Avalon U5 is a standard. But everyone is raving lately about A-Designs REDDI. That DI is quite pricey ...

Re: Bassman Amp?

My Ampeg B-200R combo sounds pretty good to me. It has a tube pre-amp, and it's plenty loud. If I could afford it, I'd get an all tube SVT. My Ricks have never sounded good through solid state amps. I'm not sure why that is...

Re: Bassman Amp?

I don't think my bass has the .0047 cap, since the sound coming from the horseshoe is quite full and loud, trebly but not tinny. I wonder if any combo amp would work well as a treble amp in a stereo setup. My Ampeg combo handles the bass pretty well, and it's plenty loud for what I need it for. I'd ...

Re: Bassman Amp?

Yes, the plan is to rewire the v63 in stereo, but I need to get a good amp for the treble side. From all the great responses I've gotten to this post it seems that the Bassman would provide a good bass sound but for low volume only. When you guys say low volume do you mean that it can't keep up with ...

Tom, is your Bassman a separate head or a combo? Is there a difference? How many watts is it?

I'm not sure about the .0047 cap... Is that the thing that limits bass frequencies? My bass is a 98 v63, and the horseshoe is very loud, way louder than the toaster. I've never modified it.

I like the small form factor and relative light weight of combo amps. My worry is that that horseshoe would ...

Bassman Amp?

Any of you guys ever play your Rick basses through a 4x10 Fender Bassman combo? I have a pretty cool Ampeg B200R combo but I'm thinking of running my Rick in stereo with neck pickup going to the Ampeg and the bridge pickup going to a guitar amp. Since the Bassman was originally a bass amp, I'm ...
