I have 2 Jazzes with them, you have to shield the bass like Roofer to keep the hum below a Tarmac Pratt & Whitney level....but its worth it.
U-Retros work in a variety of basses like you said, but then again...it wouldnt be a true Ric then would it. Why mess with near perfection from the Factory ...

The standard stark white plastic guards are the only part of the 4003 Bass design I loathe. It really distracts the eye from the beauty of the 4003's immaculate body design IMO.
