I mean no disrespect to anyone (seriously).....
In a forum like this any "negative" comments are as valid as "positive" comments. A "Rics in Church" type thread is great but when it gets to religion pro and con type conversations and baiting is when things tend to get ugly. I see your point that negative comments would be inappropriate BUT the "I am also an elder so it wouldn't be too good to be bashing(negative comments) the church!" and "However it is my personal joy (and "revenge" to these "brain dead monkeys" who pervert music for their satanic aims) to use this instrument to praise Jesus, the son of God!" types of comments that rub me the wrong way and give me that "self righteous" vibe that I find ever so offensive.
I'm probably reading too much into it but this is how problems start. Please don't misunderstand me, I am not attacking anyone and I'm not looking for an argument.....I'm pretty sensitive to this type of stuff so I just wanted to point out my side.
I'd just rather leave the religion/preaching aspect out of my Ric Forum.

I've reached the point in life where I am comfortable with the fact that others don't always believe what I believe ... and I don't feel the need to get angry when someone expresses a belief that I don't agree with ... So I think it cool to find out all of the ways Rickenbackers are used ... and it is interesting to find out about the members here ... we all bring something with us when we participate here ... religion, politics, sports, musical preferences, etc ...
Word Brian.
Its a fine line. I took this topic as a Ric Bass compatible to Church sound issue. Tangible sound not intangible Religion issue. This bass is more known for its "edgey" tone and associated with Rock Music predominately. (IE. tough to find a lot of Famous Ric Jazz Bassists vs. Rock)
As I stated...I find it fits well in the Catholic Hymns Sound as those songs are, well, in a way, Powerful and Threatening in an Orchestral fashion more or less. The Ric 4003 tone adds to that and in my case with mostly Acoustic Band members a better fit tonewise as well.
So I can see the topic getting hijacked into potentially "intangible" territory, but only by those with intent.

I agree with Brain for the most part. No need to call anyone a Brain dead monkey. But this isnt a religious debate.
I dont go to church... But the few times Iv been i was surprised by the whole band thing. This was a church that played well....alot. Seems like the band was going the whole time. Which is kinda kool. And for the most part it was modern stuff. So I see how a Ric wouldnt be to bad in there.

Brian:
Good point, no offence taken on my part.
To clarify a bit, my meaning pertaining to "negative" was that knee jerk negative reaction some people have just by hearing the word church. Nothing deeper than that.
I think that differences of opinion is what adds color to this forum. As long as we RESPECT each other's differences, that's cool!

"Freedom of expression is important, but I have learned that people want to know how much you care before they care how much you know."

Well see, I did misunderstand AND read too much into it......big surprise!
I'm not trying to stop healthy debate and really nothing actually offends me.....it's more of an annoy thing that I get going on when things get preachy. I suppose that's due to my catholic school upbringing .
I apologize for any accusatory tone in my post....I tried to word it as gently as I could but it still seems a little harsh. My tactics when I get annoyed or confronted (in actual reality or my own little perceived reality) is to stand and state my ground then escalate.......this is likely a character flaw but I work with what I have.
....and now back to the regularly scheduled thread!
