Re: Marketplace Forum Restriction For New Members

The problem is, Mark, that there have been people who join the forun just to buy or sell a Rickenbacker, but then don't contribute to the discussions. The marketplace was created to give active forum members a chance to buy or sell before they have to resort to Ebay.

Don't get me wrong, I ...

Re: Marketplace Forum Restriction For New Members

I originally joined the forum so I could buy a Rick from a reputable seller in an online community rather than taking a chance on eBay. As a potential new Rickenbacker owner at the time, I found the forum to be a fantastic resource, and therefore I had no qualms purchasing from the Marketplace ...

I'm here.

But there's really no point going there, since these type of threads only end up with people mentioning their own amps in response to the question. For example nobody is going to say, "I own a GK rig, but Rics sound best through Eden".

Re: Best Amp for Ric bass?

It seems bass players are not as adverse to solid state amps as guitar players; several of you recommended solid state models, and some recommended tube models. Why are solid state bass amps more acceptable by bass aficionados?

Because much of the time our bass signal is sent direct to the front ...

Re: Which Strings Are Your Faves?

Like others, I use a variety of strings on different instruments. In my case all my strings are flatwounds ....

4003, Fender P, Nash 51P, Stingray fretless, Stingray: TI Jazz Flats
Fender J, Bongo HH, Bongo HS, Thunderbird: D'Addario Chromes
Steinberger XL2A: Status Flats

Aphex Punch Factory.
+1 on the Aphex - $100 and very neutral. It is optically coupled and has true bypass, too.
+2 even. The Aphex does it's job without you even noticing.

Re: Low tension, tape wounds?

Chromes are great but aren't quite as buttery (for want of a better word) as TIs.

True. I tend to keep the Chromes for pure "rock", while the TI Flats are more versatile. At the moment I have TIs on my 4003, a fretted and a fretless Stingray, a '66 P and a Nash '51 P. Chromes are on the ...

Re: Not everybody likes Rics

A headphone amp (eg. Cafe Walter) or Tascam mp3 bass trainer is a simple solution to the home practice issue, and band practice at a rented rehearsal space solves the band noise issue.

What is this "next time I replace strings" thing that you speak about? Long time flatwound wearer here.

Re: String question

I didn't know Thomastik made bass strings?
TI makes great bass strings. I have them on my two 4001s, my California Precision Special (Jazz Rounds), and on my Rick Turner RB4FL (Acousticores).

I have TI Jazz Flats on my 4003, a couple of Fenders, a couple of Stingrays. The tension is a lot lower ...
