Does anyone know for sure what bass Stanley used to record Hymn of the 7th Galaxy?
Also, was that color paint original or did someone have it painted?

Stanley Clarke Playing A 4000!!!
I almost fell over when I saw this. And a solo on it as well! I had NO IDEA Stanley ever played a Rick!!!
A friend of mine sent me this link for me to see Bill Conners playing with RTF, something neither of had ever seen (which is cool in itself!!!).

Re: Treble pickup cover?
"Part No 03315 Current fitment on all 4003 basses and unchanged since around 1976.
So, did they change the hand rest/pickup cover for the 1976-81 4001's? I have a 1979 and I always thought that the previous owner had lost the original and replaced it with the taller 4003 version.

Not everyone can be good at everything. Some people are better served by letting a pro do the work. Some of these questions indicate that some should put as much distance as possible between them and a soldering iron.

Re: 500K vs 250K tone pot
I went to Mouser and searching for potentiometers I had to answer 3 questions I had not considered:
1) What power rating?
2) What shaft type?
3) What shaft length?
What is the best answer to each of these questions?

Re: Folks doing Drop D
The only Hipshot model "extender" that works on a Rick is the M-4. The M-4 model resembles the Schaller M-4.
All of the other models will not work without "shaving" the tuning key or plugging the holes in the headstock and re-drilling.
If you don't mind the newer look of the M-4 (and are willing ...

Re: 500K vs 250K tone pot
Does the 500k tone/250k volume arrangement work well with hi-gain bridge pickups as well?

Re: Volume & Tone Circuit necessary?
Are the pickups you all tested toasters, hi-gains or hb-1s? It seems like this would also make a difference.
I have both a toaster and a h-gain in my 4001. I am also toying with the idea of using at least one hb-1.

Re: Volume & Tone Circuit necessary?
Is it possible to create a wiring harness that has no pots, but has a "minimal" circuit that filters out those "'metallic zorny resonance' at 300~400hz" without limiting the highs and lows that are lost with a normal tone circuit?

Joshua, Please describe the "harshness" you refer to.
Were you not able to reduce that harshness with your effects and amp tone controls?

Re: Volume & Tone Circuit necessary?
Thanks! Sean and Bill.
Sean, what k ohm pots did you use and why? Also, what brand/style jacks did you use?
Bill, if I wire it like Sean's, will 500k pots be rated high enough to avoid most of the loss?

Volume & Tone Circuit necessary?
I have a 1979 4001 with a toaster in the neck position and the original high-gain in the bridge position. I always leave my V/T full on and control my V/T with my effects, volume pedals and amp tone circuit.
Does the circuit cut out some frequencies and gain?

Wow! Thanks John!
How efficient. That's what I call making good use of time AND material.

Mute Material?
Has the material used to make the mute pad always been foam rubber?
I could be wrong, but it seems like I remember my '72 having a felt material for the mute pad??
