Re: Canadian Ric repair
Having once had a 74 4001 and now having a 2005 4003, I would strongly recommend that you consider selling it in exchange for a new 4003. Why? Because you mention you were looking for a player not a collectable. Soundwise and qualitywise, there is no comparison between the old 4001s and a new Ric ...

Re: Canadian Ric repair
But I mean, if you had a great Ric bass that was damaged, and needed new parts, you'd be pretty grateful that someone was willing to part out such a rare bass, I would think.

Re: Canadian Ric repair
Strings are off ?
If you put some pressure on the headstock that might buy you enough relief to loosen the bolt .
I'm hoping that someone with far more experience than me will weigh in at this point .....
I don't think I've tried it with the strings totally slack yet, but once I get into a ...

Re: Canadian Ric repair
Thanks Paul. I will let you know after I gain access to the rods whether or not they need to be replaced.

Re: Canadian Ric repair
The new rods will not fit the older style channels so you can't do a quick upgrade . I think Dale was making 4001 style rods for some folks here on the forum at one point .... but I am not aware of any other third party truss rods that might work . I believe the odds are pretty good that you can ...

Re: Best Amp for Ric bass?
Solid state amps are more tolerated for a couple reasons. As mentioned, DI to usually the source to FOH.
Also, bass players usually use less distortion, or at least, don't use amp distortion; SS does clean well so there's that.
Tubes bass amps are still very important though, you can be sure that ...

Re: Canadian Ric repair
Thanks, I came across that link earlier in my searches. I will probably end up doing it myself, it's a matter of getting the new rods (assuming the old one's can't be fixed; I'd rather replace them anyway to be sure).
Has anyone had any luck with non-Rickenbacker replacement truss rods? I wonder if ...

Canadian Ric repair
Hello all,
Sit back and hear the tale of my 1974 Rickenbacker 4001.
When I received this bass from an Ebay purchase it was in decent shape. It had some "flaws" - some known, some I had to discover. I knew, for example, that it had replacement pickups (vintage Seymour Duncans with 3-way switches ...

Re: My 73 4001 tuners won't stop rattling
I have the exploding Grovers on my '74. I was advised that a drop of super glue would keep 'em together.
Also, when they explode (mostly the D tuner) there is lots of brown gunk inside. Is this gunk supposedto be there for lubrication, or is it just plain ole dirt? Should I clean it all out? I'm ...
