I'm in. Easy for me. I live here in SoCal. I can drive to Rickenbacker in about a half hour. I'll be bringing my 381 and my 330/12.

Don't worry about intonation. Try this experiment:

Fret a string with your normal finger pressure, any string, any fret. Using your tuner make sure it's in perfect tune.

Then press a little harder....only a little. Goes way sharp doesn't it. Now press softer...only a little softer than normal ...

Changing strings on the "R"

Here's how I change strings on the R tailpiece....after some trial and error.

I put the card from the new string pack under the R to protect the finish.

Then I put the G string on first (on the guitar!....har, har) then the D....then work my way from the inside strings to the outside strings ...

I might try potting it myself.

To Jerry: I also like feedback, and am quite good at controlling it. But I don't like microphonic feedback....where loose windings inside the pickups are causing a super high pitched whine. You can't control it. It's not the strings that are vibrating.

Good. I'll start looking around for someone to pot my pups. Maybe I'll get another pair from Ric and have them potted, so I can swap'em quick, without having to wait. I'm gigging or rehearsing every week and I love that 381. No going back now!

Microphonic feedback on new toaster.

I bought a new 381 recently (look at the modern Ric topic page for pics and such), and the pickups are making microphonic feedback squeals....especially the neck pickup. I'm playing live with a medium loud drummer and the squeals seem to be getting worse.

Are Ric pups wax potted?

Hmmm...Accent vibrato....hmmm.... Would the finish be safe from gouges? Listen to me! All my Fenders are scuffed up and I've never, ever polished a guitar, and here I am concerned with the finish on my 381. Where's that polish cloth?

Seriously though, I saw a 360...er...365 in Hollywood a while ...

Thanks Jeffrey....Rock on Ohio! So you're the bass player in Rare Blend? Is that the ultra rare 4005 bass you are playing? I wish I could get my bass player to use a Rickenbacker. His excuse?

Impressions on discovering a Rickenbacker 381.

Warning! Long post.

I'm an experienced guitarist with many years gigging under my belt with Fenders and Gibsons. Never owned a Rickenbacker. I borrowed a Ric from a buddy for recording and fell in love with the thing. Amazing tone! Feel...finish...the history...all American!….I was hooked.
