I found it really hard to find a video that compared the sound of different basses. You can find the sounds of different basses on youtube easily enough, but its never with the same player, with the same amp, same playing style, etc.
So I tried a project. I did a cover of "Freewill" and played 7 ...

Re: Fretfully Fretless
One of my Ricks is a fretless. The adjustment was easier than I expected. I would not have a fretless as my only bass anymore (I did for years), but I really appreciate having it as an option. A few things about a fretless;

Best "Guitar/Treble" Amp for Ric-O-Sound?
I want to try gigging with my 4003 (and 4001) using Ric-o-sound. My bass amp is a LMII Markbass head going into 2X10 and 1X15 Markbass cabs. So I figure that's my "neck pickup" amp. Now I need to think about what I send my bridge pickup to.
Any amp suggestions would be much appreciated. Not looking ...

Re: Forumite Rickenbacker Fretless Bass Guitar Count
Yup. Fretless goes with just about anything actually. The "fretless sound" people think of is just one of many of the noises you can make with them. Sometimes people use fretless in music just because it can be made to sound like the absolute best set-up fretted bass, rather than trying to make it ...

Images without the toaster or the pickup cover. And my two babies together. That little white splotch on the lower edge of the headstock is only a reflection. It's not a blemish.

Re: Forumite Rickenbacker Fretless Bass Guitar Count
I'm also late so I guess I should jump in.
My 1980 4001FL. It was my main bass for 10+ years. I picked it up in 1982 and played it with rounds in a hard rock band until the early/mid 90s - at which point it needed a tune up to the electronics and rather than do that, I let it become a case queen ...

Re: 4001FL Sample recording (Youtube)
Just wondering...
Just HOW MANY 4000, 4001, 4002 (1 I think) and 4003FL Players there are here?
I'd love to have a little sub section or something dedicated to FRETLESS if there seems to be enough input.
I SURE could use some advice from you more experienced FL players!
ANDY, this includes you ...

Re: 4001FL Sample recording (Youtube)
That's a nice-looking bass with a really good sound. It's good to see other people actively using the fretless Ric bass. I made a post like this a few weeks ago with some clips of me and my jazz buddies, although my bass is a 4003, not a 4001. The song I list here is "Spain" by Chick Corea with ...

Re: 4001FL Sample recording (Youtube)
I always seem to get a few folks asking for a sample recording or video of my 4001FL. So I've recorded this on youtube.
My playing is ok I suppose but I'm really posting to showcase the bass. I'm surprised you don't see more Rickenbacker fretless basses around.

Re: Do all the basses made from April 2009 on have thin necks?
In reading this, I'm not sure where my 4003 stands in this. It's manufactured in week 3 of 2009. Does that mean it has the 2008 neck? Probably nobody knows for sure but I'm just curious.
