Sadly this has not had a happy ending.

Carla shared on Facebook that the current owner is not willing to part with the guitar.

The current owner in Japan has shared the serial number. Which is UE1650. So May of 1981.

I am hopeful that he will be willing to either sell it, or swap it for something that he desires more.

Perhaps Rickenbacker might get involved, by selling some one-off Rickenbacker that he desired.

I'm sorry to resurrect such a painful thread, but someone just posted some pictures of an Azure glow 620 with checkered binding on Facebook. Serial number is UE May of 1981.

My best advice, for a newbie with a 12 string is to make sure that you use the correct gauge of strings on it. RICs own branded 12 string set is the one I always recommend as a starting point. There are others that are okay as well...

Also avoid Pyramid strings, as the tension is too high for the R ...

Please try to preserve the original images from when it was entered. Often the register is the only place that old photos will have survived.

Are you sure that you entered it as Vi (Vee Eye) as opposed to V1??

From personal experience, the Rickenbacker that I own with the clear coat checking, is my JG 610 from January 1991.

It's finish has many cracks in the clear coat, although if you look at the guitar from more than eight feet away, I doubt you would notice it. It still covers the wood.

No you can't do it yourself!

Older Rickenbackers use Conversion Varnish. Which requires expertise and equipment beyond but a handful of specialists. (Do a search on this site for "Conversion Varnish" and there will be lots of results)...

Newer RICs use a UV cured finish.
