Re: Who Buys This Stuff?

Hey, it's cool. You do what you have to to find the instrument that works for you. It's not going to be a Ric for everyone, and there's also the chance you ran across a lemon. Also, there's really no reason to believe that all fakers are bad players. Some might be quite good, so if one falls in ...

Re: Ashdown cabinets with 4003/4004 basses

Check the Bass centre here in Melbourne, they had a whole bunch of Ashdown cabs they got very cheap, even inc. shipping it may save you a bundle, not sure what they have left though.

Re: Pickup options for a 4003..

Nah its general.. I don't think there is anything WRONG with the pickups.. I suspect its just a general 'thats just how it is' thing.. Put it this way, the guys I play with have an '04 4003, the neck pickup sounds almost identical to mine (the bridge on theirs is an EMG), I think its just an ...

Ah.. interesting.. when did they become adjustable?! I assumed they were all 'mushrooms'.

Pots all work ok, using d'addario rounds..

Pickup options for a 4003..

Since my last thread was deleted... (guys if you're gonna delete threads.. you should explain why.. I have NO idea what it was that caused offense..*shrug* )

Ok, I'm not thrilled with the sound of my '03 4003.. I love the way it plays.. but I'm not big on the sound, its muffled and lacks definition ...

Re: So I just got my first 4003..

Ok.. so I did some comparisons last night.. in my mind I was thinking 'oh the Ric has very hot pickups'..

So, back to back I played my 4003, my Japanese copy and my 59RI PBass.

The Pbass surprisingly was by far the hottest of the lot, I mean I had to turn the volume down on the amp, wasn't ...

Re: So I just got my first 4003..

Its not the mute pad!! (yes I checked!!)
I played around with it yesterday, raising and lowering the pickups.. Its as simple as the pickups are just very very hot from what I can tell, lowering them just makes em muddy, it sounds ok, but I'm seriously thinking of putting the toaster in from ...

Re: So I just got my first 4003..

In my opinion 2000 -2005 werent all that great . Ive had every one of these years and hated the big fat neck and big fat tone . A toaster in front will dampen the lows a touch . They tend to have an airey mid tone and about half the output of the 4003 high gain. I always put 4001 pickups in the ...

So I just got my first 4003..

Ok.. So a while back I picked up a cheap 70s Japanese 4003 copy.. I love it, sounds great etc etc..

well I thought.. if the copy is this good the real deals gonna kick arse.. so I picked up a minty midnight blue 2003 4003..

And its nice .. but.. it... well.. sounds rubbish.. I've tried raising the ...

Re: Are there aftermarket toasters?

I believe GFS may have been making some toaster lookalikes, but I'm sure that RIC has long since put the kibosh on that.

The GFS replacements only have the same footprint, not the 'toaster' look, at least in this ad on eBay:
