Re: Cap Questions for Certain Ricky Basses
I´d support that. Remember that the 4000 didn´t have the cap - and the amplifiers used would have been about the same. The way I understand it is that the cap brightens the sound of the horseshoe while still allowing bass added to the sound via the neck toaster.

Re: 4002 BACK ON EBAY
A beauty it is indeed... This struck me as strange for a 4002 bass:
Tremolo mechanism cleaning and adjustment.
Tested using a very early MESA BOOGIE amp.
It´s in the auction for the 4000 as well. I know it´s nothing big but if I were in a position of shelling out that kind of money I´d expect a ...

Number of Rickenbacker Employees
I just reread the Rickenbacker Book by Bacon&Day and came across the paragraph where they state that after having employed up to 100 people in the heyday from ´65 to ´68 there were three consecutive bad years with the nadir in ´71 when at some time there were only 8 people working for Rickenbacker ...

Re: Horse shoe purpose
frode, you can take off the cover of the newer reissue horseshoes that have been used from the ´80s onwards. You can also take off the cover of all modern Ricks with non-horseshoe pickups. On the old design that was used in the ´60s the "cover" is actually part of the pickup and cannot be removed.

Re: Blackstar 5er . . .
The bass may well be what the seller claims it is, but the certificate... I´m less sure!
The certificate looks like it says: "40035/SPC BLACKSTAR... #164 in a production run of 200..."
If you look closely you´ll see it says "4003 S /SPC BLACKSTAR... #164 in a production run of 200..."

Re: Anatomy Of A Rickenbacker Bass Part 1
Ted, the gallery has a 4001 dated March 1983 with the Shedua strip while none of the 4003 basses has it, so there´s no way to dress up a 4003 as a 4001 from the ´70s/early ´80s...
I´ve noticed already that some features old and new appeared side by side for a period of time, like the change ...

Re: Anatomy Of A Rickenbacker Bass Part 1
Excellent stuff! Here´s a wee detail: A quick search of the gallery showed that the Shedua strip was used on 4001 basses from 1972 - 1983 when it was discontinued.

Re: My New 4003JG - Neck PUP Alignment
Mike, you got ilan wrong there. What he suggested was that you move the pickguard/pickup so the poles are aligned correctly. If it does make an audible difference to the way it is now, you could have a new pickguard made with the cut-out for the pickup moved to the right place. If you don´t hear a ...

Re: colour question
thanks for the warm welcome, guys! right now the bass has rounds on it but I´m going to put on TI flats as soon as I´m physically able to do so - had a collarbone fracture three weeks ago and I´m still not able use my right hand much, let alone play bass or change strings...

colour question
Hiya!
Please allow me to introduce myself - I´m Jogi and I´m a bassaddict. For some years my only Ricky-ish bass was a nice Westone copy (check http://www.myspace.com/jogi68 for more info on myself and a pic of my Westone in action) but as I was set the task to write an article on the history of ...
