I'll be there ... with some pre-war steel guitars ... that most folks have only seen in photos.

The "thumb nuts" (knurl nuts), springs, etc ... are similar to any prewar ... except they are underneath and work in reverse.

The backside is some kinda "fiberboard". Its removable ... held to the cast aluminum via screws.

The #10-32 pup mounting screws are headless and are fixed into threaded ...

Richard, that's a 1938 D14 ... bakelite necks and cast aluminum body (painted with black "krinkle" paint).

Bobby Ingano was over this summer and had never seen one before ...

The height adjustment for the pup is underneath ... very unusual ... and very cool http://archives.rickresource.com ...

Well ... an "unusual specimen" for sure.

That's a prewar body ... string thru with integrated bridge.

They went back to string thru in the 50's ... but with a screw on bridge.

The magnets sure look like 1.25" ers from here ... which is a postwar "thang".

The "T-Logo" is a postwar "thang ...

Those "Holy Grails" ... are completely different "animals" ...

Many things are unique compared to the later prewar production models.

The magnets are huge (thickness and gap size) ... the bobbin is completely different and the mounting scheme is very odd ...

It doesn't surprise me at all ...

Bakelites = 22.5"

A22 = 22.25"

A25 = 25.375"

Silver Hawaiians, Model 59, NS = 22.5"

The variation mentioned by Dave M. ... probably stems from folks measuring at various places (dead center of nut to dead center of bridge ... etc).

Measuring from where the string "leaves the nut" to ...

I make the horseshoe magnets for Jason.

The first ones were thick like I make the steel guitar versions ... very powerful.

I musta made 10 different prototypes till those guys really liked 'em.

They are weak ... by my standards ... very much like the 60's bass ones.

The earlier 1.25"ers ...

Many prewar Rickys utilized 100 K ohm potentiometers.

I have had some originals come with 250 K and also 500 K.

Seems like whatever was available at the time got installed.

100 K pots will suck too much treble out of the signal ... in my opinion.

250 K pots will be mellow ... and are ...

Yes ...

They used the same neck for 6, 7 and 8 stringers.

Some folks call the 8 stringers ... "No-Slanters" ... cause the string spacing is so tight.

Check out the "string thru" holes on Prewar Bakelites ...

There are 13 "indents" ... starters for drilling the holes ... for 6, 7, or 8 ...
