Re: "New, improved" Rotosounds?

Rotosound alternative:

These things are subjective, here are my recent observations and opinions

La Bella Deep Talkin Roundwound have an almost identical midrange, dynamic 'growl' and 'burp' response to Roto Swing bass, especially with a pick. Fingerstyle the La Bellas have more p in the pluck ...

Here's my take on it all...

I used to boil
but I live in a hard water area, and detergent was not enough to prevent a little limescale buildup.

I now soak in denatured alcohol (called meths in the UK)

DR strings last forever! I have a set of Fatbeams I bought in 2001 which still sound ...

Hi Sérgio,

the washers worked a treat, near perfect string to string balance now, thanks muchly!

The shoes do make some difference to the tone of the pickup.
If I recall correctly, the pickup sounded a smidgen less thick unshoed. (with same string to pole measurement)

I am using it with a ...

G and E strings on opposite ends of bobbin, mate!

I shall get my vernier gauge out and give them a measure for you.

you don't reckon the windings are in direct contact with poles like on genuine early pickups then?

Thanks for your swift response Paul
Is 1/2" by 1/8" small enough for this approach?

Superglue removal

Hi there

what is the best way to remove superglue from a ric?
I have some superglue removal gel but will it damage the conversion varnish?

Adjusting polepieces on reissue horseshoe

Hi All

can the polepiece magnets on the reissue horseshoe be adjusted? the G and E string lack the welly of the A and D string and seem further away from their magnets.

would adjusting even make a difference, as the A and D magnets are longer and presumably more powerful?

A short time before this thread appeared I tried the superglue trick (but without baking soda) on my 4001v63, but it has a delrin (sort-of-nylon) nut. Superglue is not good with 'soft waxy plastics' like nylon.
The plastic started to go a bit soggy, so I removed the glue with indelicate haste ...

I use a program called Amazing Slow Downer from www.ronimusic.com
try the demo and see what you think.
plug bass into 'pute, plug the 'pute into a hifi and away you go.
