NGD: 1967 365 MG

Hi y'all. I haven't been around much lately, as I've been in a prolonged adventure down the Telecaster rabbit hole. I was more active several years ago and bought my first Rick (360/12 JG VP) in the marketplace. And now I've bought my last Rick (at Guitar Center Hollywood). Oh, and I just realized I...

Re: 12-string weirdness?

Thanks, guys. I'll check these things when next I am alone with my baby...though I'm not sure how to check a saddle notch. I guess I could seat the string in question into a different saddle and see how it sounds that way.

Re: Lined Fretless Bass Guitars

As a fretless player with neither the time for a lot of practice nor the budget for a second, cool-looking lineless bass, I love my lined Tobias. Naturally, I approach it differently that I do my fretted basses, and part of that approach is where I place my fingers. In order to know where to place m...

12-string weirdness?

So, I recently picked up a newish 360/12c63 and had it set up by David Neely in Hollywood. Shortly after getting it home, I noticed that a couple of the strings -- the octave G, and one of the B's -- sounds slightly dead. Just a tad, as though there were a piece of thread squished in between the str...

Re: Lined Fretless Bass Guitars

We compare instruments all the time. We almost never compare our skills. And this discussion -- at least on a subtextual level -- was the latter from the get-go. I fundamentally disagree. It's not a matter of skill, it's a matter of preference or lack thereof. I have never participated in any argum...

Re: Lined Fretless Bass Guitars

Did anyone take offense to Michael's post? No, they let let him be and laughed. Though he added no counterpoint to the discussion, only sarcasm. I'm inclined to defend myself a little bit here. I hoped that my satirical post (unfortunately taken as sarcasm) would shed light on the tone of the discu...

Re: 660/12 Lefty set-up questions

Michael--you've bought a TR wrench but are afraid to use it? Oh Paul...you see right through me! I guess my fear is that I'll get it all adjusted perfectly and then (dare I say it?) not like it as much. I'll be left with fret buzz and have to tone down my playing style, or some such predicament. Bu...

Re: 660/12 Lefty set-up questions

I'd like to piggyback onto this thread, if I may, since it involves setup on my 660/12 (albeit a righty). My guitar came to me with some relief in the neck. My sense is that it falls within that range of "minimal relief," because it doesn't appear extreme to the eye, and the instrument pl...

Re: What's In Your Studio?

I just bumped up from Pro Tools LE (002) to an HD1 system on my Mac Pro. Which meant that I had to invest in preamps, so I opted for the Focusrite Octopre, which has enough nice, clean inputs that I could get rid of my patch bay. That also meant that I needed some faders, so I got the Command|8. Mic...

Re: My New (used) 660/12 AFG

Since my home is, by decree, a "single-12-string household," I got out my 360/12 JG VP last night to take some pictures for its impending ebay debut, and ended up spending an hour A/B'ing it with my 660/12. That turned out to be quite a revelation, and made me really think twice about givi...
