People make a similar remark about the traditional Telecaster bridge - six strings but only three barrels. I think I believe it.

Re: New 4003SPC with new standard pickup surround covers
It never ceases to amuse me how many discussions I’ve been involved in where people criticise Rics for the features, comfort etc, and I’ve pointed out that the 4004 solves pretty much all these ‘problems’, and the reaction has been tumbleweed... But the 4004 also sounds very different from a 4001/4...

Re: 4005V - NBD
nixdad, Thanks for the reply. Yes, the neck is straight and the four bridge springs are correctly installed. However, I had it backwards as to which way to turn the height adjustment screws to lower the bridge (wasn’t wearing my glasses), so my question about the springs is irrelevant. I simply lowe...

Re: 4005V - NBD
...and please don't hesitate to let us know if you have any additional questions... I do have two questions about the bridge for you or anyone else reading this - several Rickenbacker guitars use same design. What is the purpose of the four springs attached to the four height adjustment screws? Is ...

Re: 4005V - NBD
...To answer your question, the neck inlays are crushed mica, NOT "crushed pearl" as advertised by some. I believe Rickenbacker began using the crushed mica when the produced the 4005XC models (I have one of these as well.) BTW, I was inspired to create a video a few months ago to be a re...

Re: 4005V - NBD
If you're diming the knobs, try this instead: Treble Volume 10 Treble Tone 10 Bass Volume 9 Bass Tone 8-10 (to taste) 5th knob anywhere near-ish the center If you prefer a warmer rhythm sound (on guitar especially), swap my trebles above with the bass. Probably can't go wrong with ROS though. I nev...

4005V - NBD
Forumites, Please join me in welcoming this new 4005V Fireglo into the world. I never thought I would be able to own one of these. I wrote e-mail to RIC in 1996 suggesting that they consider reissuing the 4005. I thought that if they could produce the 360 on a regular basis, why not the 4005? Plus s...

Re: 4001 C64 tailpiece replacement?
I think it is possible, probably difficult. The step requiring the most attention might be drilling the four holes for the tailpiece. The tailpiece is a just a small bar of metal that you don't really see after installation is complete - see the pic above captioned "tailpiece in." Without ...

Re: So the 381v69 is discontinued
...Anyone else sad to see these go?... Me. It's the second thing I noticed, after the 4005V, when the revised RIC website came online. I got a 1998 model like new about 20 years ago. It's a great guitar, and whoever set this one up was a master - I haven't changed a thing except to intonate it once...

Re: Current horseshoe vs highgain
Sorry for the slow reply. I have a modern horseshoe in a 2011 4001C64, and I had another in a 2009 model, now sold. I think they are louder and fuller sounding than the hi-gain in my 1978 4001. It is always fun to turn down the neck toaster, favoring the horseshoe, and compensating by increasing the...

Re: Old to new bridge conversion
Sorry for the slow reply. I replaced the three-screw bridge/tailpiece on a 4001 C64 with the new V2. I had to make a change because the break angle for the G string passing over the bridge saddle was approaching zero over time. That was three years ago. I posted some pics here: https://www.rickresou...
