Re: GC Rickenbacker 4001S Special?

I am one of those who experienced first hand very poor customer service from Ric. Not once, but twice. I am also self employed and deal with quite a number of vendors. Customer service varies among them from good to excellent. But I have never been treated worse than the way I was treated by Ric. A...

Re: What strings used on Hofner bass?

If I'm not mistaken, I believe Hofner strings are made by Pyramid in Germany.

Re: What strings used on Hofner bass?

I bought a red Hofner CT a while back and now use Labella Hofner flats 50-100 on it and my Brice copy. They are excellent strings, and really bring out the best in both basses. For me there's really no reason to use anything else anymore.

Re: GC Rickenbacker 4001S Special?

It's a beautiful bass for sure. But it's definitely for the collectors market given the steep price and the very limited run.

Re: The secret sounds of the Peavey T-40

The T-40 is a great bass. The only issue I have with it is it reminds me of my Fender/Warmoth Jazz Bass in that it is very heavy. If you can handle the weight on the shoulder through a show, the tones the bass has are quite good.

Re: Thunderbird

I'm interested in trying one of the Epi T-Bird Classic IV basses. I like the fact that it's a neck-thru with the Gibson pups. All the reviews I've seen are quite good and state that the neck dive isn't there. I remember playing the Gibson verson many years ago in a store and really liking it.

Re: Fender BXR300R Amplifier

I have the BXR300 combo and it has been a real workhorse for me. It has a few scars from use, but I've taken pretty good care of it. IMO, it and it's 100wt little brother, were among some of the best amps Fender has made.

Re: What kind of bass amp do you use with your Rickenbacker?

I used a Hartke 400wt head with a Carvin 1x15 cab. Nowadays I use my old Fender BXR300C amp. That things heavy as **** but sounds great.

I have a red Hofner HCT 500/1 and I love it! It's a super little bass, and so easy to play and sing with.

Re: THE bass to get?

Relatively speaking, the '72 - early '73's are your best value compared to the '60's basses. You get most of the cool features, plus I believe the skunk stripe necks tend to be more stable and allow more flexibility as to what strings you can use. That said, if money was no object, I'd be looking f...

Re: Carvin bass heads..

I never used their bass heads, but I did use a Carvin 1x15 bass cab when I was on the road. Very nice sounding too... very well build as well.
