Re: Make my 4003 Meaner

Classic Amplification pickups. Done.

It woke my '03 right up with their stinging attack and bell-like overtones. Don't forget to add Darkglass to the setup. They sound like they are built for Rics.

Original vs CA repros with a B3K overdrive:

Awesome looking bass!

I actually went looking for the Classic Amplification thread to see how you liked the pickups. Great :D

Re: Classic Amplification Replacement Pickups

Thanks, Spongebob :)

And, just so you know, I'm already getting better tones than what I posted on here - there's a funny thing; these pickups react differently to my overdrive. I can dial a lot more in and still have clarity, whereas the stockers muddied up a lot earlier.

Can't wait to hear your ...

Re: Classic Amplification Replacement Pickups

Great review!

Mine will hopefully be dispatched any day now. Then it's just the wait for the postage over here, customs charges, etc.....!

They sound fabulous - can't wait to get them in.

That's great:) I think you'll really like them.

.....and try a soundclip - we'd all love to hear them in ...

Clankchris
Thanks for the reply. My request would something highly technical like "make them sound Chris Squire-ish". Please post a review for us!

Well, I've had them in my bass for over 3 days and...they are awesome  Way more articulate and grindy compared to the Hi-Gains. And remember ...

Re: Classic Amplification Replacement Pickups

http://classicamplification.net/Pickups/Rick_pickup.htm

Has anyone tried these? They look much better made than the old run of high-gains (shielded cable, better lead dress, aluminum pup baseplate, etc) , but that may not mean much sound-wise. They have a 60's version and a 70's, not sure which ...

Re: Adjustable pole HiGains vs '03 4003 HiGains.

Thanks, iiipopes. I just had a few back and forth emails with Brad from Classic Amplification and it seems he can actually build me a pickup more suited to the sound I'm looking for. He seems really thoughtful and his pickups get a lot of positive reviews.

I mentioned having good mids but having a ...

Re: Classic Amplification Replacement Pickups

I posted a thread about trying out a 2006 or newer(adjustable) Hi Gain in my '03 4003 bridge position, but wonder if the 70's Classic Amplification remake would have more metallic attack. Those look neat, especially with their aluminum plates. I take it the ground wire is now the plate on those?

Adjustable pole HiGains vs '03 4003 HiGains.

I've been thinking and reading about replacing my bridge Hi-Gain with one of the '06 and newer Hi Gains, since I pretty much just use my bridge 90% of the time. I got to briefly play a 2010 Ric and remember it sounding pretty awesome. Can anyone compare the early 2000's Hi Gains to the newer ...

Re: Geddy being... well... Geddy

Music to my earbuds! Thanks for posting. "Limelight" was one of the first basslines I ever learned (thank you Guitar For the Practicing Musician , back in the day), and I learned much from it.

One thing that unsettled me many years later though was finding out that Geddy, in le studio up to that ...

Re: Are unequal truss rod tensions ok?

What would be the point of having two rods if the tension were always to be even? I guess you could argue additional strength or the placement of the tension but the design was specifically so that you COULD have uneven tension.

I can finally stop worrying about this and sleep at night now ...
