Great work, Mark. Your sound comes as close as I've heard to the crunch distortion CS used to get. My 4001C64 gets the exact "voice" in tone distribution, but I haven't achieved that natural sounding breakup you're getting. Your technique is also excellent.
All the best,

Re: Fragile: Tony Kaye's presence?
As far as the potential Page sighting goes, it makes sense, since he was also with Atlantic.

I dont' see the filename box. Maybe it's because I have so few posts.

Can someone tell me how to add a photo on this website? Thanks. Yup. Scroll down below the box where you typed in your post. There's a box on the left that says "Filename" with a blank beside it. To the right there's another box that says "Browse." Click on it to view a list of ...

Re: Rickenbacker the latest rage with the kids?
No, we bought my son's first and I fell in love with it. Kept asking him if I could borrow it when I played out. About a month or so later I sprung for the C64. His has much stronger pickups, but mine has a gorgeous classic Squire sound.

Re: Is There Such A Thing As 'The One'?
I find my 4001 C64 to be "the one." It is an absolutely satisfying instrument. My son's 2009 4003 has fine sustain and is much more powerful, but my C64 has the exact sound I was looking for. It is quite different than any Rick I've played (probably 5 or6). Can someone tell me how to add a...

My first Rick was a 360/12 I bought when I was 20. Now I'm way old and have a 2009 4001 C64. My son (12) has a 2009 4003 FG.

Hey Miguel,
Really loved this tune. This is your best work yet. Very intuitive composition. And nice crunch on the bass.
Happy Holidays,
Tom Chambers

Re: Nevermind all that check this!
Come to think of it, When I saw Yes in the Round in 1979, Squire's bass had a double braid of two coil cables articulated through the floor of the stage. At the time, I assumed all Rick basses were stereo.

Re: Questions about early basses
I agree that the horse is strong on the C64. When I play it stock through two amps (split with an A/B switchbox) the high to low distribution replicates the Squire sound from CTTE or Fragile. Used to go through a POD, but it seems to narrow the range and filter out low & high.

Re: Questions about early basses
I have thought about wiring my C64 stereo, but I'm afraid of screwing up the wonderful stock sound. It has the voice of the RM1999 and 4001S as it is.

Re: Questions about early basses
Regarding stereo horse and toaster: Go to the RRF forum Chris Squire and Yes Forum and open the post "Nevermind all that check this." In the video clip, note that Squire has a split cord running from his bass to the amp. I would suggest that this is evidence that the bass was wired stereo.

Re: Nevermind all that check this!
Here is proof that "The RM1999" was wired stereo (by Chris?). One can see the split cable right at the bass. Would love to see this whole film.

Re: "The" RM 1999
Does anyone know what the original finish was on "the RM1999 (DC127). Did it come with a cream-colored finish, or did Chris' repairman put that on it?
