Re: My New 4003JG - Neck PUP Alignment

I'm with you on that one up to a point - and that is that 4003's didn't used to show obvious quality issues. Look at any pics of older models and these problems don't show up. As far as I know, these basses have continued to be fabricated and assembled to the same process, so I'm thinking something ...

Re: My New 4003JG - Neck PUP Alignment

Just received delivery of the replacement for the earlier 4003JG mentioned in this thread, 2 months after I eventually returned it to the dealer, for the quality reasons described in this thread. Quick turnaround for the replacement was due to UK importer Rosetti shipping the next 4003JG they ...

Re: My New 4003JG - Neck PUP Alignment

Thanks for your reply. I bought the bass in the UK, from a store called Anderton's, in Guildford. My reason for choosing them was that I live in the UK (about 200 miles from Guildford) and Anderton's had already placed their order with Rosetti 7 months before I placed my order with them, so I ...

My New 4003JG - Neck PUP Alignment

Hi, I have just received my brand new 4003JG this week (after a 2-year wait) and noticed the neck pickup is not aligned with the strings (or neck), i.e. the pole pieces of this pickup are not directly under the strings, but are shifted towards the top end of the body, so that only the outer edge of ...

Re: rick o sound

I have one of Bayou's splitter boxes winging its way to York, U.K. as we speak, so I'm sure they'll post one to where you are, in God's own country. If I recall correctly, the postage to U.K. is about 20 bucks again, but what with the strong pound to dollar ratio, etc...

Re: Pickup cover removal

I visited the place where they make this special type of button, in Dublin's fair city. I saw thousands of them there. I'm going to experiment...

Hi Mark. I used to live in Glasgow some years ago, and remember a guitar maker, somewhere in the Pollockshaws Road area, on the southside (Moon Guitars, maybe, but could be wrong). The guy I spoke to there seemed to know his way around Rick basses, though he didn't do any work for me.

Luthier Required

Does anybody out there know of any reputable Rickenbacker tech's in the York / Yorkshire area of the UK?

Much appreciated guys.

After the chrome pickup cover has been removed, doesn't the pickup's ground wire become redundant, being as the largest mass of metal in the pickup assembly (i.e. the chrome cover) has been removed?

Or will the pickup still be sufficiently grounded via the remaining ...

Thanks guys. I appreciate the benefit of your experience, and hope I can help someone out similarly, after I've carried out the pickup cover removal procedure myself.

In your experience, which access method is easier -

a) removing the strings and the entire pickup assembly by removing the four ...

Thanks Mike - a great help. Of the two different methods described by Joey, the second procedure sounds easier - if the cover can easily be removed through the pickup surround, after loosening the two screws, without damaging anything.

I imagine it could also be fiddly realigning the washers ...

Pickup cover removal

Hi guys. I'm awaiting delivery of a new 4003JG (could be a few months yet though!). Back in the day, I occasionally played 4000 series basses with the bridge pickup cover already removed and found it convenient for fingerpicking over that area. I am planning on removing the cover from my new 4003 ...
