Re: 360 vs 370

I have a 340 and I find the middle pickup getting in the way. Lots and lots of people have three-pickup Ricks and love them, so it's not universally considered a problem, but it's a real issue. Exactly the kind of thing that you should play before buying, but that's not an option too much of the tim...

Re: RRF CD3 - NOW ALIVE AND TAKING SUBMISSIONS

It was a close thing, but it looks like the song my band recorded for this project will indeed be mixed by the deadline! In addition to several Rick instruments, it also features a Rickenbacker AMPLIFIER---the main guitar track is a 650D through a TR25. Anybody else have a RIck amp on their recordin...

Re: Springfield, IL, USA

I know Sgt. Peppers---it's a popular breakfast spot. Actually my family has been patronizing restaurants run by the guy who owns it for at least three decades. I'm sure they made a proper 'shoe for you.

Re: Secondary Brands - Squire, Maestro, others

...IF Fender is selling SO MANY SQUIRES..........isn't that taking the bread out of their own pockets by NOT selling the MIM, MIJ & MIA higher end guitars? I don't quite get that line of thinking....although I did benefit by NOT spending 1K upwards for a MIA Fender bass. So far, they appear to ...

Re: More Gibson tripe!

"You have a rare wealth of creative potential lurking deep within, but until now no guitar has had the power to fully tap into it. Enter Gibson’s Dusk Tiger, simply the most astounding innovation in the history of the guitar." At least they're not over-selling it. I can't wait to see what ...

Re: Peavey T-40

I play in a band with a gal who plays a T-40. Every once in a while a thread will get going on TalkBass in which guys will start whining about the weight of the T-40, and I like to post pictures of Amber in those threads---it tends to shut up the "ooh, my back" crowd. http://farm3.static.f...

Re: Springfield, IL, USA

After writing that up, I'm really hungry now for a Coney Island dog or a Joe Rogers chilli burger! Alas, the substitutes available in the Chicago Loop pale in comparison.

Re: Springfield, IL, USA

I grew up in Springfield and lived there for about half my life, and my parents still live there, so I'm pretty familiar with the city. Springfield has really great bad food. If you are not averse to a little grease in your diet, you can find some real culinary treasures there. Unfortunately they do...

Re: Your favorite amp?

Over the last month or so I've been A/B'ing a bunch of amps, and to my surprise the one that's beaten all comers so far is a tweed Deluxe clone (5E3 circuit). It doesn't have a whole lot of headroom but it's been able to keep up with a number of bigger amps in the volume department while staying rel...

Re: Favorite Non Harrison/McGuinn 12 String Licks

I'm not positive it's a 12-string as opposed to multi-tracking or some other studio trickery, but "September Gurls" by Big Star is a favorite, and it sure sounds like there's a 12 on there.

Yeah, I could probably help out with this, but I am just too busy to take over organizing it. Actually, I'm just hoping that it ends up scheduled for a weekend I'm in town.

Re: Which Ric guitar/bass of yours has the best neck?

My favorite is my '06 360/6. I haven't played enough older Rics to know how necks have changed over time, but I do know that almost from the moment I picked up that guitar, it felt like an old friend. Neither an 80s 360 I used to have, nor a more recent 330 or 340, had quite the same intangible qual...
