RRF CD3 - NOW ALIVE AND TAKING SUBMISSIONS

Greetings, RRF’ers –

I’m pleased to announce that RRF CD3 is officially a true entity in concept. It looks like we’re making a tradition of the ‘Music featuring RRF members and their Rickenbacker instruments’ compilation series. I’m excited about being able to do the compiling and mastering of the music again, as well as organizing the album art layout using forum member submissions – all with the blessing and supervision of our beloved RRF founder Peter McCormack, who originally started this series.

As with the 1st & 2nd compilations, the project will feature original songs exclusively. Like the music, all artwork submissions must also be created by RRF members. So for all of you who are interested in participating, now’s the time to send in your submissions!

Here’s the 411:

DEADLINE FOR MUSIC AND COVER ART SUBMISSIONS: FEBRUARY 1st, 2010.

SCHEDULED CD RELEASE DATE: MARCH 1st, 2010.
(That’s right, kids - Just in time for St Patrick’s day!)


*** ALL RRF MEMBERS *** are welcome to submit their recordings. Sorry, no submissions by non-RRF members will be considered. However, for participating bands, NOT ALL BAND MEMBERS have to be RRF members. Your band simply must have at least one established RRF member.


*** AT LEAST ONE RICKENBACKER *** instrument must be featured in your song. As with the first two compilations, variety is encouraged. (There wasn’t one lapsteel or acoustic guitar on the first two comps. I don’t think there were any banjolines, either!)


*** ALL STYLES ARE WELCOME ***

I don’t think I need to run down the list of known musical styles to illustrate that point. If you play music, you know what it is you do, and I’m sure you understand that “all styles” includes you.


*** MAKE YOUR RICK HEARD ***

Whatever your Rick instrument is, the more it plays a prominent role in your song, the better. This is a gray area of course – don’t sacrifice the balance of your mix by over-accentuating the Rick element, but for example if you’re the sole Rick player in a metal band laying down the bottom end with a 4003 behind two Drop-D Les Paul slingers with their Marshall stacks cranked to 11, make sure that bass can be identified in the mix!


*** SUBMIT 3 SONGS MAX ***

If you’re sending songs on a full-length CD, please indicate which top three you want heard. There is no time limit on the length of the song submitted, but due to the 80-minute max time limit on audio CDs, shorter songs make take preference in regards to the selection process. The CD format serves as a good time limit parameter, but there will also be digital distribution of the compilation as well.

*** INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING INFO WITH YOUR SONG SUBMISSION: ***

1. Your name
2. Your RRF moniker (as with above, list all of those involved)
3. Band’s name (and all other musicians involved with your recording. PLEASE point out who the RRF members are if you’re not the only one.)
4. Songwriting credit
5. Band/Musician photo (*preferably emailed in digital format*)
6. Copyright owner
7. Model number of the Rickenbacker instrument(s) featured on your recording, including year & month of production.
8. Your contact info including email address

If all you have is ONE COPY of your precious musical moment, please get it duped before sending it to me. The USPS out in my neck of the woods here is ineffectual and irresponsible at best, so if your recording is a rare commodity, I highly recommend FedEx-ing it, or using whichever shipping service you trust the most. I’d hate for anyone's music to get lost or damaged in the mail. I will notify all who submit when I have received your music. If you don’t hear from me within 2-3 weeks after you sent it off, notify me as a back up.


*** NO LIMITATION ON RECORDING AGE OR QUALITY***

Songs can be from your first acetate roll recorded back in 1931, or a demo you recorded yesterday or have yet to even record. Recordings with good sound quality are preferred, of course, but some marginal recordings can be “fixed in the mix” to some degree. So if you can’t make it to a studio by the deadline, and all you’ve got is an old cassette with tons of hiss, it’s still worth consideration.


*** FORMATS - MUSIC AND COVER ART ***

Please submit songs in the following formats: Audio CD, Wave file on CD-ROM or emailed via YouSendIt or similar file sharing sites, DAT, or Cassette.
* PLEASE NO MP3s. *

For artwork submissions, I can use pretty much any digital photo file format, including RAW camera files. Hi-res files are preferred, 240-300 ppi. Artwork can be emailed to me at the address below. There is a 20meg attachment size limit on that account. If your image is greater than that, you can send it to me via YouSendIt or a similar files sharing site. You can also send it on CD-ROM to my office address listed below – OR – you can give me the URL to your artwork if it’s on an ftp server.

My electric band (PBU) had a song on one of these, I think ('Under the Radar' was the song) -but I never got my mitts on a copy.



Think I'll submit a song for this one. And I hope to get a copy of the final product too!

Would having only one Rick bass hi-gain pickup on the recording qualify?

What are you trying to say, Jeff? Have you ALTERED YOUR BASS???

Seriously, as long as it's a Rick instrument, you should be fine. I don't think anyone has ruled out instruments with stitched-out pickups or various other mild alterations. Of course, the subject is open to comment.

I have this recording of a great song I wrote many years ago, that I did in a 16 track studio in '83. The catch is that I played a Jazz Bass with a hi-gain in the neck position. The bass sounds incredible, I would love to submit it.
