This is the subject of a current thread over on Voxtalks - several people over there think it's safe and not silicone. I looked at an old bottle in my garage and it didn't have an ingredient list, but I know if it's silicone you're pooched if you ever want a refin. If it is poly based like they say ...

Actually he played an Ovation DEACON 12 string. I have one I bought new in 1974. I bought it because no dealer in my area carried RIC in those days. It's still one of the best sounding electric 12's I've ever played. In the mid 80's I added a RIC 360/12 to my collection, but as far as traditionally ...

I would diagree to a certain point on this, I have heard from several luthiers that long term storage in a case can be detrimental due to the gasses escaping from the finish. I'm guessing that under certain situations, for example a household with smaller children, or in a shared practice space ...

I think another reason players find the 3xx series hard to navigate is that many of the retail outlets that handle Rickenbacker, especially the large chain stores, don't take the time to set them up for decent playability. I know the local Mars store hangs the RIC's near the ceiling and it takes an ...

I'd agree with Tom on the high-gains for all around rock tones. If want a more 60's tone try the toasters. A TON of this depends on the amp rig you plan on using.

It's funny that the tube guys shy away from these, the more you know about older amps and the way they operate the better you can tweak a modeling amp.

I use some pretty darn convincing AC30 models, and I love doing McGuinn type sounds through either the JC120 or Twin models. Most people try ...

Thanks Mark - I'll try that tonight. Once again I appreciate your time and interest in my situation.

Glad to know you appreciate the modeling amps too. I take a lot of s__t from tube snobs, but once they hear it live they usually shut-up.

I'm very comfortable it's not the amp, I'll admit my heresy but I gig regularly with a cover and use a Line6 AX2. I have found the convienience and variety of sounds works for me, plus I use a GR30 synth in the Aux input, this saves me hauling two amps. I keep my tube amps at home for the studio ...

Thanks again Mark - your expertise is invaluable to this forum. I hate like hell to have to disassemble a brand new guitar's pups but I guess I can take it back to the dealer. Actually they had to call RIC to determine if they were scatters or not, and only one guy there even knew what scatters were ...

Thanks for the response Mark - I had heard that story before regarding the reasoning for the scatters. I was actually more interested in hearing your personal characterization between the various incarnations of these PUP's. I am still surprized that the toasters in this 660 feed back so badly on ...

I just saw that, so I'll watch your post too. According to what I know, the switch over to scatter wounds as a standard happened in early 2000, so your new 660 should have scatters.

Characterization of RIC pick-ups

I have been playing 80's vintage 360 series guitars for a few years now and have come to appreciate the high-gain sound as a fairly unique. I recently purchased a 99' 660/6 string. It has Toasters, but not scatter wound. I really love this guitar's feel, neck, and all the other ergonomics, but the ...
