Re: Stolen Rickenbacker (and others)

Wow! Do you string that Thinline Rickenbacker-style?
I always meant to, and just a couple of weekends ago I had the nut redone and had the stringing done Rickenbacker-fashion. It's going to be my backup 12-string.

Re: Harmonica on “The Airport Song”?

Of course! Thanks, janglebox! We're doing "She Don't Care About Time", but not the harmonicasized version... or at least, not yet. I've always wanted to do "Set You Free This Time", and I can't believe I forgot the great harmonica part. "Captain Soul"... well, I don't see us doing that, but who ...

Re: Harmonica on “The Airport Song”?

Thanks so much, everybody! Our percussionist had expressed interest in the harmonica* part to this song, and after what teb said, I went to The Texas Music Emporium in Houston (yes, it's a plug) and picked up a Lee Oskar A-Diatonic model. Of course, now Alison (our percussionist) wants to do more ...

Harmonica on “The Airport Song”?

Does anyone know what kind of harmonica Gene played on “The Airport Song”? The obvious answer (to this non-harp player, anyway) is that it is an E-harp, but a friend of ours says that it is easier to play the B-to-A bend on an A-harp. Then again, for all I know it might even be a chromatic. Can ...

Re: Byrd Box Compressor?

I just spoke with the sales manager of the company. He told me that Roger McGuinn was given a "Byrdbox" about a week ago to test drive!!! I just e-mailed Roger to ask his opinion. Hopefully, he'll reply to this one!!!
Did you ever get a reply? I'm trying to decide what to do... get a Janglebox, or ...

Re: Saw Roger McGuinn last night!

I wish he would come to Houston. I saw him about twenty-five years ago playing his Martin 12-string, and it was a terrific show. Afterward I got to meet him, and he was very nice, quite gracious, and answered all of my questions (which were mostly about his playing technique).

Somewhere there is a ...

Re: Renaissance Fair

Heres a link to the tab as published in Guitar Player a few years ago...both guitars are capoed at II. The 12 string is in in drop D for the chords.
Don, that link is gone. Would you still happen to have that tab available, please?

Re: Byrds Tribute Bands

The Mockingbyrds, a Byrds tribute band in Houston, are reforming after a year off, and we’re looking for a new bass player. We focus primarily on the music from the original Byrds, from "Mr. Tambourine Man" to “The Notorious Byrd Brothers,” but that doesn’t mean we won’t handle some of their later ...

Oh, she cheerfully agrees with me when I say that it'll be different once we're married. Then it'll be, "But Honey, what about the new kitchen countertops that we really need?" The obvious solution is that we never get married. Sigh.

Hey, maybe I need to teach her to play the guitar!

Thanks so much for the support, everyone!
Beware, though! Severe RAS may develop if you go looking to replace it! My search to replace my 71, which began a year or two ago, has resulted in a really bad runaway case of RAS, over 100 Ricks now and still counting.... Elysrand, you are so right! While ...

I really like the feel and sound of my Rickenbacker strings on my 360/12, but my bass player has been very enthusiastic about Thomastik Infelds, so I will probably try those next. I've played a 330/12 that had Pyramids, and I just didn't like the way they felt. I can't even explain why.

My girlfriend (who doesn't play guitar) keeps reminding me of an Amber Fireglo 370/12 that we saw in a store last weekend. "That sure was a nice guitar, wasn't it?" she'll say. Or, "You know, you really should have tried that guitar. Maybe it was The One!" That's right, I didn't even dare try it ...

Houston's Mockingbyrds are looking for a new guitarist. I'm still there with my 360/12, but our other guitarist just got too hung up on the whole Clarence White thing to the point at which every song had to sound like an outtake from the "Untitled" sessions. The honky-tonk noodling through all of ...

Perhaps my all-time favorite bass sound is on "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," especially during the fade.I'd always thought of that as the classic Rickenbacker sound, and was quite jolted to find that McCartney played it on a Fender Jazz bass.
