I will definitively get other opinions on this one...I'll try to describe the situation (see pics). It's related to the wood grain towards the headstock. There is a wood pattern not running parallel to the neck and it creates a high spot on the G string. The second fret is most affected and no note ...

Fretboard needed for a 4003 !!

Hello all,

I have a 1992 4003 with a warped neck. Took it to the luthier and after examination (and evaluation of the work he has to perform), he says a new fretboard (with inlays but no frets) will be needed !! He will take off the original one, check for jammed rods, etc

Where to get this ...

Sorry for the mistake in the wood...I am supposed to know it's maple but I guess I've been collecting firearms too long and made a mistake typing on the computer....Paul, thanks for getting me ``back into line`` on the wood issue...

Many thanks to all the good advices & info I received on that one. I have stripped it to discover beautiful walnut under...Most of it is done and the luthier will take care of the rest...I will probably go for a natural finish which should look good with the stripe, white pickguard and chrome parts ...

Hello John,

Yes you see this correctly, it's the rear part of the body where the neck slab joins the wings. I'm curious as to the black line below the binding strip ?? Is that filled with varnish ( or other ) on a mapleglo finished RIC ?? Seems it's a blank area...

Another pic of the same...On ...

Refinish JG or MG ??

I recently bought a 1974 4001 that has seen quite some use...JetGlo finish is well worn and I'm considering having it refinished by a luthier...( posted in a different tread ``74 4001 w/changed electronics``)

Question is JetGlo or natural maple finish ?? I'm not sure it has not been repainted ...

4001 74 w/ changed electronics ??

I just got this JG 4001, made in February 74. Shows a lot of wear but good basic structure, functionnal rods, straight neck, no major cracks and original Grover tuners. A few replaced items on it: pickups ( 4003 hi output on it )pickguard ( have the original white one ), tailpiece...I'm unsure about ...

I had a similar problem with a JG 2006 4003 bass. The chipped area was on the bass side of the tailpiece...Good advice was mentioned on this forum about fixing it up. But I had an opportunity on a 78 AG 4001 so I traded it away...

I tried a Hipshot bridge on my 4003. I dont believe it could lift like a Ric bridge as it's a machined solid piece of brass. Very rugged & well made with fine ajustements. Also added up a bit of sustain. The drawback is the weight. This is the reason I did not keep it. It totally unbalanced the bass ...

I'll do a small paint touch up & it'll be fine...

Robert, yes I'm kind of unlucky with the 2 Rics I own...I'll be carefull in the shopping for the 3rd one...

Mark,

Pictures dont show properly. Under the JetGlo finish is the bare wood ( light blond colored )

Brian,

Yes the JetGlo was bought new on Ebay. Advertized as ``unplayed`` which was right on. I have been using it for almost a year & been very satisfied with it until this paint issue came ...

Major dissapointment on a 4003

Hello all,

I bought this 4003 in late June 2006. New in OHSC with all goodies...From a reputable seller on the bay. Everything as expected, no complains at all. This JetGlo 4003 in my main rig and she sees at least 20 hours of weekly use...

I like to keep it nice & clean her after each playing ...

Brian,

Thanks for putting some Mesa stuff in this tread !! I've been following this one hoping some would be using Mesa stuff...

I use Mesa as my primary rig. Sadly I dont have a pic at hand of ``my monster``...400+ head with a 2 x 15 cab. Seriously considering adding a 6 x 10 cab to the ...
