Re: RM1999 vs 4001S

I saw them at Bingley Hall in Staffordshire (between Stoke and Birmingham). Before the NEC Birmingham was built Bingley was used by a number of rock bands in the late ‘70s including Floyd Rush and Bowie. It was a cattle market hall of a hangar type construction.

Re: RM1999 vs 4001S

I totally agree with the comments about the 60s tailpiece position varying from bass to bass on otherwise untampered guitars I might add. Some (not 21 fretters by the way) had the tail right back to the edge of the body and others revealing about a centimetre of body. At the other end of the scale ...

Re: Reissue Horseshoe pickup question

Not sure if the glue/adhesive fix would take the strain so you might have to make or find a new base. The threads stripped on my reissue HS so I swapped it for the aluminium base from a 60s lap steel that I luckily had. I fixed the plastic original with car body metal epoxy putty and the bolt sat in ...

Re: Cast 60’s aluminium bridge

Geddy Lee has an original wooden mould for the sand cast tailpiece in his bass book. You could try contacting him.

Re: Chris Squires 1972 close to the edge recorded sound

I have to agree about chasing someone’s tone. I spent ages replicating Squire’s tone but in my case it was for the Yes tribute. When Covid messed everything up I’d finally gone digital with the Line 6 Helix Rack which streamlined the dual amp summed into mono system that Chris used. Anyway it was ...

Re: Nut on jack conection 4001c64

Check by swapping the lead around and use the straight end into the bass and right angle into the amp. I remember having similar trouble with a Planet Waves right angle jack that I borrowed from a guitarist. The plastic outer of the plug body was too thick for a bass with a recessed socket.

Re: Nut on jack conection 4001c64

Looking at that right angle jack plug makes me think the problem may be simply the design of the silen plug. The right angle jack body might be preventing the jack from going all the way in and the contact with the tip might be a fraction out causing an intermittent signal. If you put a washer under ...

Re: Nut on jack conection 4001c64

Your jack socket without a washer under the nut looks fine. If the problem persists with standard jacks the first thing I’d do is get the surround off and check the connections inside the socket in case theres a poor joint etc. A washer is only there for preventing the securing nut from slipping and ...

Re: 4001c64 tail lift

Many of us have wanted to see a re-issue of the sand cast aluminium tailpiece and bridge. It was a better material which didn’t warp like the zinc ones and it looked better for having just the three screws concealed under the bridge. The only “drawback” as far as I can tell is that it was more ...

I tried that Blackfoot Sue RM in Denmark St in 1976. They wanted about four hundred quid for it and it was falling to pieces!

Lovely bass Ratwax! (All you need is a stereo to two mono jack lead. No boxes needed). Lets have your take on the split sound when you get around to it.
