I first learnt to play by playing along with Lemmy's Hawkwind albums, and if I could own any celebrity guitar it would be his first Ric, which was on all of them except Warrior (which was apparently a real T/bird, later stolen).
Lemmy's first bass was a Hopf Studio, and is the one that can be ...

Re: Lemmy's Basses in the Shop
It was a 4000 that Lemmy modified with Gibson Thunderbird pickups, and is the one he played in Hawkwind after the Hopf bass got stolen. The bass of Lemmy's that RIC had was an unmodified 4001S or RM1999.

Re: Looking for a 4001 in the UK
Hi, Yes thanks, but they are dealers with somewhat high prices. I was hopefully looking for a private trade if anyone knows of any.

Looking for a 4001 in the UK
As subject, I'm in the UK and looking to buy a 4001, preferably 1974 or earlier. I see quite a few 'over the pond' but the import duties make the total cost unreasonable.

Frets look original, as does the binding. Nut job, could be, yeah.

Re: Strange Mark on Fretboard?
Yes I thought it looked genuine for the year, I'll probably go for this one.

Re: What Model Exactly is This?
Thanks, that's cleared that up. Interesting that the current seller doesn't mention anything about the history. Not to mention the sudden doubling of value...but hey, that's business I guess.

Re: Strange Mark on Fretboard?

Here's the rest of the bass...if that helps?
And why would someone refinish the fretboard??

I'm considering buying a 74 Jetglo which looks genuine, and just wanted to check something with you guys. Between the nut and first fret under the G is an area that looks lighter, this is apparent on other photos ...

Re: "The cap"
Don't forget, the sound of the bridge pick-up with the series cap in circuit will change depending on the input impedance of your amplifier.
For example 1, assume an amplifier input impedance of 500k ohms. The volume pot is, according to the schematics, 330k, so the cap 'sees' a total resistance ...

Re: 4003 75th Anniversary
Thanks for the warm welcome!
Yes indeed, beware the dodgy eBay ads where the same photos are repeatedly recycled. I work with vintage synthesisers and it's the same over there. A genuine seller will usually take the trouble to show off the item, not obscure it with some small indistinct pictures ...
