Hi John,

Always good to meet a local Ric-ster! Will you be attending either of the CTS shows this weekend?

Marc - it sure is. What a blessing!

Greg - that's great that you're coming to the show. Please do come up and say hi if you can. Always good to meet another Ric'ster!

Thanks, guys!

Re: Gibson Thunderbird or a holiday....?

Just wanted to follow up that I have taken delivery of my DCM 4003 and as I suspected, it's a great sonic fit w/ my Tbirds. They complement each other very well. Will be using the Ric for the 1st time @ tonight's gig (O'Brien's in Annapolis, MD if any locals are on the forum).

Re: My 1st Gigs w/ Crack The Sky

Thanks, all.

Yes the Wiki page is in need of an update. Even the official CTS website is out of date. Apparently the admin is a former member and they're trying to get him to relinquish control of the site back to the band. Ahhh, the music biz!

My 1st Gigs w/ Crack The Sky

Hello all, I've just recently joined a band that some of you may remember from the 70's-80's - Crack The Sky . I was a huge fan of theirs as a kid and I'm totally stoked to now have the gig. My 1st shows with them will be: Friday, April 22 @ Club 66 - Edgewood, MD Saturday, April 23 @ Ram's Head Liv...

Re: Joe Barden Now Has 4001/3 Replacement Pickups

Jeffery,

IIRC, they looked kinda like toasters. Sound was extremely full range w/ pronounced mids and highs. Good solid lows too. Very hi-fi sound. Tons of head room ala Spector. I think they're gonna be the ticket for a Squier J conversion project later this year.

I'm actually about 2.5 hours south of it and I have a gig that night in Baltimore. I'm not one of those guys who can do long drives and still be functional. I'm Mr. Sleepy Guy. Grrr...danged gigs!

Re: Marking Vintage Cases

I use blue masking tape, the kind you use when you're painting, and a sharpie. I've never had any issues with the tape coming off even after copious gig schleppage...and I play 150-200 shows/year.

Re: "Can't you smell that smell?"

I believe it's these "new" molded cases which have become the case of choice for so many manufacturers these days. My Modulus and Warrior basses all have that smell as does my '07 4003 which I just acquired today. Many of my students show up w/ those cases as well and I always recognize th...

Re: ric-o-sound!

I'd be curious to hear from any bassists who are using ROS, what gear they're using and what types of music they play. Having just taken delivery of my 4003 today, I plan to experiment with ROS @ home and then try it out on a gig soon.

Re: Kyuss's Scott Reader

Those vids didn't show up in your post but that's ok as I'm sure they're on Youtube. Years ago I got a VHS (yup, that long ago) of a whole buncha Kyuss live stuff; some not so great quality but hey...any port in storm, right? And yes, WTSV is my fav as well. It's a shame those guys never got bigger.

Today I took delivery of my 75th Anniversary 4003 and now found out about this event. Sure wish I could attend. Does anyone typically post photos of these events afterward?

Re: Joe Barden Now Has 4001/3 Replacement Pickups

I haven't heard these Bardens yet but one of my students put a set of Bardens Js in an MTD and they sounded uh-may-zing! Hard to imagine them being better than stock Rics but might be cool for a project bass or a Rickenfaker.

Re: Gibson Thunderbird or a holiday....?

CJ - thanks! Glad you dig.

Ken - yeah, I saw those recently. I think they're kinda "cute", but not for me. Maaaybe if they offered some other cool color options, just for the collectible factor.
