Re: 4005 Tuner Restoration?
My '66 4005 has large Shaller type tuners on it from the factory. Did they go to something smaller in '67 or '68?

Re: Fireball - Deep Purple live in 1972
what I really love about this particular cut from the 72 show is how simple things were then. Paice needs another bass drum to play fireball, so the roadies just bring one onstatge, shuffle it into place on the kit, find a mic, and off they go. The audience waits patiently while they do it. Can you ...

Re: 500K vs 250K tone pot
Ok, someone with better electronics knowledge check me out here, but as I remember from school so many years ago:
[1] the dc resistance of the 0.47uF at any given frequency is 1 divided by (2 x pi x freq X capacitance)
[2] therfore at 100 Hz, the capacitor has a resistance of 1 over (2 x 3.14 x ...

Re: Relic'd Rics
I'm personally not a huge fan of the "reliced" look. I fully understand that if you've had an instrument for 20 or 30 years, and every scratch, dent, and missing patch of paint represents a gig, (or a lesson involving cheap guitar stands and alcohol,) the damaged finish has special meaning. However ...

Re: A classic bass versus a modern masterpiece.
Pete Greenwood - What a Horror story! Although I play, I've probably spent more time behind a desk at gigs than on stage, and I almost NEVER have problems with a bass player, and never advise them what to do with their amp, unless they are bottoming out their speakers by inappropriate volume or EQ ...

Re: A classic bass versus a modern masterpiece.
I've done limited playing in "good" (e.g expensive) studios, but I can confirm that most engineers seem to prefer a Fender simply because their "default bass" settings are designed to work with the harmonic content of the fender, which IMO is weaker in fundamentals than the Rick. In one instance ...

"'metallic zorny resonance' at 300~400hz"
I don't think there's much that can sound "metallic" at those frequencies. 300-400 Hz is what I usually scoop to get rid of "mud" from bad bass rigs that are not reproducing fundementals accurately. If its truly metallic sounding, it's far more likley to be ...

Yup, definitely the same pickup. I about had a cow when I took the pickups off my 66' 4005 to clean them and saw six pole pieces!

CJ, or anyone else, and apologies for a slight thread derail. I do actually have a question regarding speaker power ratings and amp matching.

Easy Robert. When Joy Division started out they were a very young and hard-up-on-cash group of naive lads. Being a Manchester boy myself, I can assure you that it aint that easy to get hold of affordable Rickenbackers in the town - never mind 25 years ago when the place was pretty down on itself ...
