No, there are 3 different:

I don't have an original pickguard at hand now, but as I can remember, none of those have the correct width.

Great. Sounds good. I'll take a look at it. What width should I take?

Thank you :-)

Re: Where can I find original looking masking tape?

Western Europe. We don't have that kind of stuff in our stores here. We just have Tesa and that's not the same. Or funny colors masking tape. I need to order it somewhere on the net. What would be the correct width?

Thanks Sepp,

But where can I buy this kind of masking tape? I've almost searched the whole net and I didn't find anything that looked like this...

Where can I find original looking masking tape?

Hi,

I replaced my pickguard, but I can't take the masking tape off the old pickguard, as the tape wouldn't stick anymore. Where can I buy original looking masking tape for the back of my '76 4001?

Attached is a picture I found here in the forum.

Re: 4001 restoration with 2 custom switches

These are tools to be used to do what we love the most: play music. In this particular thread, the bass is not a pristine "closet classic" example as set forth in another thread. This is a player that has paid its dues and suffered at the hands of someone else. It's time to get it back to ...

Re: 4001 restoration with 2 custom switches

Replace the 0.047uF tone cap (you have to decide which pickup's tone control you want to mod) with the two 0.1uF caps wired in series.

I understand. But the problem is that I don't want to replace anything of the original wiring. I want to leave it original and just bypass the original treble cap ...

Re: 4001 restoration with 2 custom switches

That is a good idea. I recently put a 0.1uF cap in my bass and like the results.
How would I wire it? (The original cap will stay, the bypass and the second 0.1 uF cap will be connected to the switch)
Which switch?

Re: 4001 restoration with 2 custom switches

Normally you don't find instruments like guitars and basses on the fleamarkets here in Luxembourg either. I just had loads of luck :D

Re: 4001 restoration with 2 custom switches

Well, one thing you could do is to put the .0047 inline cap on a mini switch to wire it in/bypass, like the new 4003 basses have the push-pull.

Hi Scott,

thanks for your reply.

As the cap is still on its original place I would like to leave it where it is and make an on/off-switched bypass ...

Re: 4001 restoration with 2 custom switches

+1 mute switch: How would I wire it? A switch (What kind of switch, as it should wire 2 ins to 2 outs?) between the pots and the output socket harness or a on/off switch between the ground and the output socket harness? :?:

+1 pickguard: I'll order the pickguard anyway, but as the Ricky was like ...
