Re: 4003 Red bass

Red with black hardware was a stock color, they did make 4003s red with black trim hardware as well in to the 90's s, they did a limited run of red 4003's in 90's they had chrome screws, chrome damper screws and chrome pick up cover/ finger rest as per blackstar style.

Re: TC Electronics Cabs

They have switched a lot of cabs from Eminence drivers to generic Chinese drivers.
The cabs they made with Eminence in rocked and they made a name, the new stuff sucks.

Re: The 4003S is back!!!

http://www.rickresource.com/register/user_images/31241/4.jpg Lucky Enough to have one from the First early 90's 4003s run, For me the lack of binding and solid finger board makes them more of a players bass, have my 4003 for eye candy but the 4003's is just so hot melted butter to play. Have been t...

Re: The 4003S is back!!!

The players version of the 4003, own a 4003s myself and what lovely instruments to play they are. If they do the pearl white, my credit card is coming out. Then again the midnight blue is calling. Hats of to JH in listening to what people want, love what he is doing with the bass line up these days,...

Re: The Japan-only new limited 4003 with checker binding

They have always done custom runs to export countries. This is what makes them unique, you can not buy everything they make off the shelf. You have to hunt down those exclusive runs and get your hands on them. Personally if you could just tick box every model made, the brand loses kudos. They cost, ...

Re: Weak e string on 4003 bass

If you can get hold of them, try rotosound swing bass, some of these trendy expensive strings have really naff low E strings out of the packet.
Only had one duff rotosound in 30 years and when I complained they sent me 4 sets of new strings and an apology note.

Having messed with all sorts of pick ups, nothing beats the hi-gain stocks to me.
Yes you might get a bit more output, but the magic is in those pick ups.

Me and my beautiful 4003s
Have 2 Ricks, but this sings like a grand piano, the sustain is incredible.

Re: 2012 Ruby 4003 Intonation/Saddle Issues

Having spent 30 years with Ricks, the best strings are Rotosound swing bass medium gauge.
You can get the action so low the bass sings like a grand piano, low action soon makes up for any volume drop off from heavy gauge strings.
Everything intonate s perfectly with near centre saddle positions.

Re: 4001 Bass Setup

You have to ease them in to a set up over time, I bought a 4003 that had action really high and buzzed on every fret , I put very heavy strings on and tensioned the rods slightly about 8th a turn each night until it came down, switched to medium strings, did the same and then medium light and same a...

Re: GC Rickenbacker 4001S Special?

Always loved the S basses, a players instrument, nice round edges to the front, neck feels more solid without inserts, simple on output, the gigging version of the 4003 !

Re: Any 4003SB out there?

Hmm, it has twin outputs, There is confusion over what exactly the SB was and if they all had toasters, some had toasters, some had groovers, some did not. It was not a good time for Rick basses Market wise and it was only when the latest 4003 with right way round rods and hi-gain pick ups they got ...
