New 360/6 FG question

Post by gjg59 »

Hi guys, This is my second Ric. I sold my FG 330 last year when my wife was sick and I sold a few, knowing I would eventually buy another Ric. Musicians Friend (yes, I know you should try not to buy sight unseen) has a sale right now so I bought a new FG 360/6. The guitar is beautiful, the quality is exceptional and the action is probably the nicest I have ever seen out of the box. The guitar was just made in Jan 05. That being said, the Fireglow is not a gradual as, "transitional" meaning red paint fading into the pinkish hue as I have seen on some Rics. It kinda just stops. Is that just the luck of the draw on which painter you get at Ric? Also, on the back of the guitar there are two giant, 3-4" bookmatched "knots". Is that a desireable trait value wise or undesireable. thing. Thank you and I am glad to once again be part of the Rickenbacker community.

I believe fireglo and mapleglo vary quite a bit. I have one of each, I picked my mapleglo in person, and the fireglo, I saw a picture on the web first. It has the nice gradual fade-to-pink you mention. Mine has a knot on the front if that makes you feel any better. I tried to upload a picture but it wouldn't allow me to send anything that had any detail. Is there a limit on the file size or something?

Sorry, Steve and Gerry, should say welcome as well, and to clarify, reduce to less than 500x500 pixels

Hi Gerry & Steve, welcome to the forum. I have 5 fireglo gtrs & they do vary quite a bit. The nicest are on my 1980 330 & my 1992 1997, but that is because they have aged.
I actually MUCH prefer the 'abrupt' fireglo....I really don't like the 'fade to pink' look. As for the bookmatched knots....you lucky sod, I LOVE things like that, any character to the wood is a good thing IMO.
I must stress that these are MY opinions & I don't know if the value of your guitar will be enhanced or reduced by these features.
I do know one thing though....it sounds like a guitar that I'd like!

Welcome to the Rickenbacker Forum Gerry. Save not appealing to the personal preference of a prospective buyer, in general I can see no reason why the bookmatched knots would be anything but desirable.

OK, here is my 360-12VP in a low-res image. It is a really nice one, and I get better at playing it every day. I think the 500x500 pixel limit is a bit chincy ...Image

Steve: Welcome to the Rickenbacker Forum. Nice photo.

You are only using 400 X 213 pixels in your photo or about a third of what you could use.

The file restrictions are based on download time and my budget. Paying for many gigabytes of bandwidth each month can eat a hole in your finances rather quickly.

When it comes to Rickresouce.com, the emphasis is on "resource."

500x500 is plenty enough Steve. The quality of your pic is superb, so you've done something right! Image Nice looking fireglo too.

Well hell then, here is my mapleglo 330. I happen to think that mine is particularly handsome. Some are way too grainy and swirly for my taste, mine is just sharp as a tack, nice & blonde. With these two beauties, I don't need to go out and chase women anymore! And if I did snag one, she may be jealous because I only look at and touch my guitars !!!

Nice pictures, That is what Fireglow looks like to me. My Jan 05 guitar is very, very, one more very, light in color overall. My 330 was a Nov 95 model. Does the Fireglow tend to darken up over the years. I would think it would fade.

That is excellant because I would like it a little darker. I had never heard of Rickenbacker four years ago when I started playing. Sorry! I was looking in a guitar magazine and a Fireglow Ric, 330 I think, reached out and just grabbed me. I am not kidding. I do also want another 330. I would have a hard time buying other than Fireglow. Mapleglow is nice also.

I've made this comment somewhere else on this board before... Love FireGlo but I also like the ones that get kinda pink or mellon color in the middle... Although most folks like the warmer color... To me, that looks too much like a Gibson Les Paul.

I'll tell you, FireGlo looks absolutely beautiful on the acoustics with gold trim.

Here is one I'm considering... Mine is MapleGlo. I'm thinking of swapping out the gold hardware and nameplate to chrome and black and white.

Or, Mr. Hall, can you make me a FireGlo jumbo acoustic and bind the headstock?
