4001 truss rods

Does anyone know where i can get some replacement truss rods for an 80 4001 ?

If you have both rods but they are damaged, it is usually possible to fix them without replacing them. Tell us more about the situation and maybe we can help. If you don't have the rods, try Randy Wood Guitars.

Hello ,the nut and threads are busted right off the end of the rod

Cut them off and rethread them. An inch, even two, off the end will make virtually no difference to the adjustment.

I bought the bass and they descovered the problem but they said that they put a rick 6 string guitar truss rod in it to replace the broken one . So you say this will not effect it ? He said it was about two or three inches shorter.

I think guitar rods might be too short. Bass rods are about 24 inches long. Guitar rods are probably more like 6 inches shorter than bass rods.

In your opinion if i was to use the guitar rod till i fixed the otherone would i use it on the g string side instead of the e side ?

String loads on most modern sets are pretty even across the neck. I hesitate to suggest using a guitar rod in a bass neck though. The support might not be adequate.

i use 40 -95 gauge ghs rounwounds . Do you know of anyone who has welded threaded rod on the end of broken truss rods

Sure, that can be done. The trick will be to weld it straight and then grind the weld smooth so the rod can slide in and out of the neck smoothly. Randy Wood's rods are made of ground round stock. They are probably too strong for this application but if you adjust them carefully they will work well. He charges around $80 per set.

I had ends welded onto two 4001 truss rods then threaded, he only did the threaded part though, but I don't see why 6" couldn't be done if it is straight like Ted said.

Thanks for mentioning GHS has a set of 40-95's! Had not found that on any retail site, and was getting ready to buy some bulk strings...

Guess I should have looked at the manufacturers sites a little more closely...but damn, anyone been to GHS's site? What a mess of programming errors! And then there are the mispellings: the 40-95 set is under "Bommers"! LOL!

Anyway, thanks for the unexpected info...now I can look for that particular set!

Thanks Ed , Yeah i've been using the L3045 GHS Bass Boomers for about 15 years or so . As far as im concerned they are the only strings i will ever use on any of my basses . Great action and i feel that they put less wear and tear on my frets
