From the mouths of babes...

Post by edski »

Well, my son, also a bass player, has a gig at a battle of the bands tonight. Get this...

He's plonking around on my 4001 the other day, and asks if he can "use the Rick for his gig". I'm thinking the 4001 that he's holding.

He's a good kid...straight A student, been playing long enough that I know it's not a passing fancy. So I say, "sure, you can use the 4001"

"No, I meant the new one" My brand new 4004 Laredo Fireglo...which I haven't even used in a full rehearsal myself yet. I had to laugh it off...

In 3 months of driving this kid has smashed his friends car, dropped my bass cabinet on his back bumper (busting the bumper up pretty bad), has willfully disobeyed his mother and spent a Friday night at a friends after he was told to come home. On "probabtion" for that event, and just about in our good graces, this past Friday he takes a friend home without asking permission, takes a corner too fast and pops his tire off the rim, and gets involved in a shouting match with a yahoo from that neighborhood. Now, he didn't cause the argument (apparently), but he *should* have asked if he could take the other kid home. He was late for a Dr's appointment because of that jazz.

I'm pretty sure I don't have to spell out my decision. Image Love ya kid, but you're not getting to play my new bass at a gig before I do! Image

Encourage him to keep with it. You're lucky in that regard. I've learned basslines for songs by Avril Levigne, J-Lo, and Pink to try to help my stepdaughter learn the instrument, but the commitment is just not there. I may have better luck with our toddler - I picked up the Blues Clues opening song bassline, and she loves to boogie to that!

I've learned the theme song to "The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius". I love that song...and show. I TIVO it for my 7 year old. My 23 year old and I are able to play more to my taste. However, since he is in the Navy we don't get many chances to jam together.

Hey! They won their battle of the bands! $500 for the band! Image Good deal.

It help when you have the largest band, and sell the most advance tickets! Image But they did play well.

Hehe...he wishes. He's going to be paying off crunching his friends car door for a while, and with 11 people in the band, the $ doesn't go far! LOL!

I'm getting the impression that he's starting to GAS for a Laredo, since he likes to slap.
