What Artist Led You To Rickenbacker?

The Beatles, after them a variety of others, But seeing those old clips of John Lennon did it for me

Same here.
Hearing The Beatles led me to get one.

But I think Rickenbacker's also look good, that helped in deciding to get one.
Especially since I bought one without ever playing one.

It wasn't an artiste, it was a magazine! I found an article on Rickenbacker gtrs & basses in a guitar magazine when I was about 12 years old. I had never heard of Rickenbacker, but I couldn't believe how beautiful the 4001 bass was. I cut the picture out & carried it around with me. Six years later, at the ripe old age of 18, I got my first 4001 JG. I was in heaven.....come to think of it, I still am!!

The Beatles for sure. I recall thinking how much I wanted a Ric when I first saw them and how I thought a Ric would always be out of my reach. I still can't believe I have one, actually five.

Don't laugh OK!!! Firstly the Rutles.....we'll I was young and thought they were great.....and actually thought the Beatles had ripped them off........but only for a few days until I got laughed out of school. Then it was the Beatles. I couldn't understand why I liked certain tracks more than others. But later realised it was all the tracks with 12 string Ricky that I was drawn to. Then soon after the Byrds........and then spent the next twenty + years listening to them over and over again!

Hey, the Rutles are fine!

For me, while the Beatles and the Byrds obviously played a huge role in my love for all things Rickenbacker, my contemporaries were the Jam. Seeing Paul Weller bang away on his Rick (and bassist Bruce Foxton on his) was enough to prove to me I needed such a guitar.

Then Peter Buck just sealed the deal...

Despite my nickname on this forum, I'd say it was really three people who did it. McCartney made me aware of Rickenbacker(along with George and John), Squire made me really aware of what a Rick bass was capable of, then Geddy came along when I was in high school and sealed the deal...
But mainly CS, although I have a lot of respect for most of the other well-known Rick players mentioned here...
