Rickenbacker Strings - Add a Wound G?

This is a question for John Hall. I would also like to know what others think of the idea of adding a wound G to the Rickenbacker 10-42 set.

The wound G makes all the difference in the sound of the 325 and a wound G also brings out the sound on my 350 beautifully. I really enjoy RIC strings for the sound and feel but find that with the plain G the sound is not a full as it could be. I appreciate that the plain G (017) has its merits, however, I am wondering if RIC would consider having a wound G (say 018) added to the set. This would be a nice touch for what can't be too much more money. Optionally could RIC make a wound G available separately. I have been reasonably happy with the Gibson Sonomatic strings as they have the wound 18 but overall prefer the Rickenbacker set. The 20, from the 12 string set is a bit heavy. Is there any chance, of adding a wound G Mr. Hall.

Given that the 10-42 is just too darn light for the Model 325 (like using 7's on a full scale guitar), I'd recommend a compromise and suggest the 95105 set which is:

10-13-18W-26-36-46

This way you can have your cake and eat it too!

John: Thanks for this information. I am, however, looking for the Rickenbacker round wound nickel, compressed strings in an 18 gauge. I guess what I am asking is if it would be possible for RIC to have a compressed 18 gauge string produced that could be purchased by those who prefer the sound and feel of the compressed sets. The gauges you list are spot on but they are not in the compressed sets. So how much trouble would it be for you to ask your supplier to compress the 18W that they already produce for you in the standard round wound?

The string itself wouldn't cost much but the compression die doesn't currently exist for the 18W. That's quite an expensive item and would raise the price of the set to the point where I don't think it would be competitive.

I believe GHS also offers compressed strings; perhaps you can get individual strings to suit your taste.
