Any 4004LK Takers?
This was commented on briefly in another thread, that bass enthusiasts may not have seen. My questons are, why isn't the 4004LK talked about much on this Forum? Is it little known? Does it have features that are less desirable? Is is simply less available? What do you say?

I think its not being commented on for a few reasons, the lack of availability and knowledge for sure, plus people on here love to see a photo of other peoples basses, and then comment and ask questions. Once a few forum members receive their long awaited basses I guess that will change.
I for one would love to know more, I think its and exciting and exquisite bass, the 3 pickups look great on a 4004, the question is how practical they are and if they make a big difference to the sound! I sure hope this turns out to be a really interesting thread

It comes up as often as you would expect such a rare bass to be discussed. After all, there is only one here on the forum with another on the way (AFAIK). Our collective experience with this model is nearly non-existant. So yes, I think it is probably an availability issue. It is based on a desireable model and has some cool extra details. I should think that there would be plenty of chatter here if there were more of them in the hands of players. It is certainly not being ignored.

I also think there is not a lot of discussion due to the fact that very few of us will ever have one. I don't think that Shadows are exactly in abundance, just that many of us have one. Weren't there under twenty of them owned by forum members? That still leaves more than half out in the market somewhere.

A photo of the 4004LK from NAMM 2001 for the purpose of discussion.

Fewer than 20 Shadows are accounted for here, including the one's that have popped up on the 'bay and including JH's. I have 17 serial #'s recorded...actually most of the Shadows that come up on Ebay are "recycled", purchased and put back up for sale later.
I don't think they were ever intended to be a "limited edition"....you couldn't order them...RIC just had a batch made up, 1 for each GC that was in existence at that time. FYI, all of those Shadows that are known have ZI,ZJ,or ZK serial # prefixes, except for the last one that popped up on the 'bay..which was a ZL.
I know these things....mainly because I have a lot of spare time...
