It kinda looks to me like this bass might have had some repair work done on the headstock. The finish under the TRC looks a little rough. Also, it looks like there might be cracks running with the woodgrain at the D and G tuners.
Other than the checkerboard binding I have never seen a Rick with anymore than a single layer. I wonder what else may be hiding in someone's collection.
