the signature can be changed w/replacement scratchplate...

but then what's the sense of a signature edition...

Get yourself a V63 and have someone like Dolan refin it to look like Squires. It would be alot cheaper.

The thought crossed my mind a few times, but Im real happy with my V63 just the way it is.

Chris's RM1999 has Vermillion instead of Walnut/Rosewood. Also the neck is profiled thinner to suit his modded bass.

But, Yes - if looks are the only factor, just get the thing Dolan'd.

But...when his bass started out, before the abuse, before the neck \ body shaving, and numerous refin's, it was essentially, (Vermillion the exeption), a V63.

I'll bet the neck on my 85 V63 is more like the neck on CS's actual bass than the limited editions is!

Speaking of Lemmy, what are the features of his bass that would either convince you to get one or not. For me, I would wonder about the feel of this instrument with the carved body compared to the smooth surface to which I am accustomed with my 4003. I also wonder about the humbucking sound versus the high gains.

Imagine the treble clank of a 60s 4001S, combined with the deep hum of a Gibson EB-0.

Add a bit of thunder and you have the 4004 Cheyenne II sound.

Thanks Mark. The EB-0 is not one of my favourite sounds but I have yet to hear isolated soundbytes to hear the interaction of which you speak. Can you send along an mp3 of the 4004 Cheyenne II?

The sister 4004, the Laredo - sounds a little different. Being fully-Maple, she sounds brighter - less "angry" so to speak. Cii is a moody bass.

Some guy here said the Gibs_n EB humbuckers produced a "wall of mud" sound.

Loved that description!

The LK dosen't sound quite like the CII or Laredo.

I just had the first opportunity to play my Laredo in a full band rehearsal last night.

It was a joy!

Can't really say enough about it. The amp was set about 1/2 it's normal output settings (compared to using my J bass of the 4001), and the sound cut through great.

Plus the thing is so comfortable to play. It will take a little while to get used to rounds after using flats for years, but I can handle it. Didn't draw any blood, so it's all good!

I'm the jerk Chris was talking about yesterday who saw the Lemmy in the Sam Ash window and picked it up - This must have been 3 years ago now. I must admit I have some guilt just walking in off the street and buying it while many of you folks did a special order and are still waiting.

If you have any questions about the bass, I could try to answer them for you...

Tony....actually I was the one who mentioned you and "jerk" was not in my description. You were in the right place at the right time and while it bothers me that I am still waiting for mine it is certainly not your fault that you came across your LK as you did

I do have a few questions....
How are the p/u's wired.....is the middle paired with the bridge or neck p/u as controlled by the toggle?
Do you get much use out of it?
What are your impressions as to the tone?
How is the walnut holding up (does it need re-oiled often) and is it a PITA to keep clean due to the carvings?
.....pictures of your production model would also be swell
