McGuinn's name mention in songs

Post by loverickbass »

On a XM radio interview he says his name is mentioned in four different songs within the past 30 years or so. Can you name them? BTW, I can't because I was dealing with my 2 year old at the time and you know how that can be.Image LOL,sorry! He says they are pretty well known.

I Dig Rock N Roll Music is one...I'm still thinking. I'll get back to you.

Creque Alley, Mamas and Papas is the second one.

The Animals mentioned the Byrds in their song, Monterey, but I don't know if it's his personal name or the bands name he was refering to.

"You Ain't Goin' Nowhere" by Bob Dylan, although apparently the McGuinn lyric isn't in every version.
My basses are Rickenbackers. My synthesizers and recording gear are analog.

Major mistake on my part...Rock n roll music isn't one of the songs.

There was an Orange Juice song that had a line, 'I wore my fringe like Jim McGuinn's'. I believe it was from their first LP (1982?). I'll have to dig it up- they had some great stuff.

Thanks for reminding me of this song, Chuck. I had totally forgotten about it.

After digging it up myself, the Orange Juice song was "Consolation Prize" recorded in 1981 for the album "You Can't Hide Your Love Forever". The fringe was actually Roger's, not Jim's!

Edwyn Collins suffered a cerebral haemorrhage on the 20th February, but his condition is improving:

"But the man has a 47-string guitar." (Grace Slick on Paul Kantner's attempt to tune his 366/12 during a Winterland show of October 31 1969).

The Uncle Tupelo CD "No Depression" has one of the songs. Jeff Tweedy (now of Wilco) sings on the song "Train",
"...the radio was playin', Roger Mcguinn singin' to each and every thing there is a time and a season..."
Possibly played on a Ric as Jay Farrar played a 600 series at the time.
Cheers,
Bill
